Types of lenses according to purpose.

1. Convergent Lens

Converging lens directs light to a point at the optical center

or axis of the lens. A lens that converts parallel rays of
light to convergent rays and produces a real image.

2. Divergent lens

A lens that causes parallel light rays to spread out. It is one

that causes light passing through it to diverge away from a
focus.

3. Wide-angle lens
A wide-angle lens is a type of camera lens that has a
wider angle of view than a standard lens. It is
characterized by a shorter focal length and a wider field of
view, which allows the lens to capture more of the scene
in a single shot.

4. Telephoto lens

A telephoto lens is a type of camera lens that has a longer

focal length than a standard lens, which allows it to
magnify distant subjects and bring them closer to the
camera.
5. Slow and fast lenses
At quick shutter speeds, fast lenses are employed to
improve image quality and blur background objects. The
size, weight, and cost of slow lenses are routinely
reduced. The sole difference between fast and slow
lenses is the greatest amount of light that they let into the
camera for recording.

6. Single-lens and twin lens

A single lens indicates that the camera is now only using one lens.
In a twin-lens reflex camera, there are two lenses: one for the
viewfinder and one for the actual photo-taking.

7. Achromatic lens
A lens that is intended to reduce the effects of chromatic and
spherical aberration. Two wavelengths are focused on the same
plane using achromatic lenses that have been adjusted. The focus
error for wavelengths between these two is therefore better than
that of a straightforward lens.

8. Apochromat lens

Is a lens that corrects chromatic and spherical aberration

more effectively than an achromatic lens.

9. Rapid-rectilinear lens

The Rapid Rectilinear is a lens with four elements in two

groups that is symmetrical about its aperture stop.
10. Anastigmat lens

Anastigmat lens is a photographic lens completely corrected

for the three main optical aberrations the spherical aberration,
coma, and astigmatism.

11. Negative/ concave lens

A concave lens is used to diverge incident rays. This helps to

create a virtual image on the opposite side of the refracting
surface.

12. Mirror lens

lens of long focal length in which some of the lens

elements are replaced by mirrors in order to shorten its
overall length and reduce its weight.

13. Positive/ convex lens

A lens is a piece of transparent material which

concentrates or disperses light rays when passes
through them by refraction.
14. Long-focus lens

A camera lens which has a focal length that is longer than the
diagonal measure of the film or sensor that receives its image. It
is used to make distant objects appear magnified with
magnification increasing as longer focal length lenses are used.

15. Macro lens

A macro lens is a dedicated camera lens that is optically
optimized to handle extremely close focusing distances. It can
take sharp, highly detailed images of microscopic subjects.
