You are on page 1of 3

You are provided with solution W and V which are plant extracts.

You are to carry out the tests on

the solution following the instructions provided and then answer the questions that follow.

(a) Label the three test tubes as I, II - VII and add the contents to each test tube as shown in
table 1.

Table 1

Test Contents Observations Deductions

tub

I 1 cm3 of X + 4cm3 of distilled water
+W

II 2 cm3 of X + 2cm3 of distilled water

+ 1cm3 W

III 3 cm3 of X + 2cm3 of distilled water

IV 1 cm3 of X +1cm3boiled of W

V 1cm3 of X + 1cm3 of Hydrochloric

acid + 1cm3 of W

VI 1cm3 of X + 1cm3 of sodium

hydroxide + 1cm3 of W

VII 1cm3 of X + 1cm3 of distilled water

acid +1cm3 of W

VIII 2cm3 of X + 1cm3 of W

IX 2cm3 of X +
+ 2 cm3 of W
(b) Prepare another set of test tubes as below

Test tube Content

I 1cm3 of X + 4cm3 of distilled water +V
II 1cm3 of X + 3cm3 of distilled water +V
III 1cm3 of X + 2cm3 of distilled water +V
To test tube I, add 3cm3 of solution V and immediately start a stop clock. Measure the level of liquid
including the froth in millimetres every after 30 seconds for 2 minutes.

Repeat the procedure using contents of test tube II and III, record your results in table 3
