Development work was first performed on the American blend product . Thee
tobacco blend which we used'contained!3l0 % of expandeditobacco . In the
casing we addod a combustion-improving salt to facilitate lighting of the
cigarette . The cigarette paper used on the prototype contained 1 .7 $'
ci~trate . The filter material was paper having an efficiency of 75 % and
the dilution was made by micro- and macro-laser perforations (dilution
level : 73'$') . Prototype evaluation is under way .

Based on a new leaf formula, established by A . Stathopoulos, we produced aa
series of prototypes . After evaluation, we selected prototype No 6 P which
was presented to the Swiss~Marketingipeople andithey found it to have an
agreeable taste . It will be tested against BRUNETTE DOUBLE FILTERin a
consumer test . Before performing the cigarette test, we shall runia neww
tobacco trialicontaining a pre-cutting solution developed in R&D Neuchateli .
if'we obtain a better product, we :shall present it to the Swiss Marketing .

Mr . A . Stathopoulos developed'a new tobacco blend having .a predbminant .
Oriental taste . On this new tobaccolblend, we applied a completely new
flavour system which was developed in R&D NeuchAtel in order to achieve the
Oriental taste characteristics . The non-tobacco materials chosen for the
prototype constructions are si¢niliar to those of MLK, i .e_ filter and
tipping paper items . At present, different cigarette papers are being
tested . As regards physical cha, raateristics, smoke deliveries and'taste
direction, prototype 78 P(cigarette paper Wattens 7&C 1) was chosen and
it wil'1 be presented to the Swiss Marketing people .

A new tobacco blend recipe was established by Mr . A . Stathopoulos . A
lay-down of 1'000,kg,was .processed according to ;MAA primary specifications
without after-cut . This tobacco blend cut-filler was incorporated i'n
different cigarette prototype constructions including the MAA 09 format
(7 .95 / 20 / 79 .4 mm)1 . Prototype 15 P, which gave 9 .0 mg/cig . tar, was
selected for development of'after-cutting solutions . This is now under
way .
Objective

Status / Plans
The tobacco blend cut-filler used for the development is the same as in
COUNTRY CH (MLF 14' .0 mg/cig . tar) except for the after-cut application rate
(after-cut MLF 30 liters ;/i'000 kg instead of'26' liters ;/1'000 kg) . Severall
models were created usingidifferent types oflcigarette papers, filter tow
items and'tipping papers . One of them corresponded to the above-mentioned
objective (prototype 12 P), and it was found very good (in line with,MLZ
product) . The results obtained with prototype 12 P will be re-confirmed in
January 1984 .
