DAY 1

SURVEY ON FOOD PURCHASING CHOICES: COMPARING THE PREFERENCES

OF TEACHERS AND STUDENTS OF LUCRECIA R. KASILAG SENIOR HIGH
SCHOOL, BETWEEN THE CAFETERIA AND OUTSIDE FOOD SOURCES.

GAP
- The price inflation of products especially food and essentials in the cafeteria.
- The danger that may result from buying outside the alma matter.
- The unhealthiness of foods that the students may consume.
-The different preferences of teachers and students regarding being safe over saving up money.

- Students using the canteen often are frequently purchasing snacks and sugar-soft drinks from
shops near school, most likely owing to availability of pocket money and an emerging
independence. School authorities must focus upon satisfying canteen users by providing
desirable, healthy, and affordable items in order to compete with the appeal of local shops.

This study investigated the changes in Dutch school canteens and self-reported student
purchase behaviour after support to implement the Guidelines for Healthier Canteens
compared to no support. We conclude that such support appears to contribute to healthier
canteens.

This DepEd Order highlights the necessary points for a school canteen's operations, especially if supply is
on a consignment basis. These points are highlighted in order to ensure that whenever a student buys food
from the school, safety is assured that no harm may be done to the student. These are also in order to ensure
the quality of the food being served.

In connection with the previously stated DepEd Order, these two incidents are some of the instances where
the requirements for food safety was not met. This particular incident happened during the time where the
school canteen's food were outsourced. This shows that the risk of having outsourced food is one of the
problems that school administrators have to face.

In both of news were stories of students that were apparently poisoned by the food offered by their school
canteen. This, and other type of incidents, are one of the factors that affect whether a student or a faculty
will continue their consumption and dependance on food on the canteen, or will rather go out and prefer
outside food sources. To simplify, accidents such as these affect the perception of consumers on whether
they will risk or go somewhere that they trust more. Even those that have not experienced the poisoning,
may be influenced by the opinions of other people.

While having poisonous food from the school itself, the following story revolves around the food brought
by an outside vendor to an elementary school. The incident had affected 6 teachers and 88 students, 94
people in total. This is one of the cases where an outside vendor had breached the school premises and had
sold "poisonous lumpia and turon" inside. This also include the discussion of security in the school
providing that an outside vendor had the time to sell its products to atleast 94 students before being caught
because of its negative effects.

Conclusion
In conclusion, the main factor that affect the choices of the consumers are the security and assurance of the
quality of the food. A person will not buy from a someone without knowing if the source and preparation
is properly maintained and monitored. The various incidents that occur and what comes afer them all comes
down to the decision of the consumers of whether they will risk or change. Some may say that the heavier
factor is money, but as seen and experienced, even if something is cheap, as long as quality is not assured,
then many will not subdue to the temptation to buy.

DAY 2
SURVEY ON FOOD PURCHASING CHOICES: COMPARING THE PREFERENCES
OF TEACHERS AND STUDENTS OF LUCRECIA R. KASILAG SENIOR HIGH
SCHOOL, BETWEEN THE CAFETERIA AND OUTSIDE FOOD SOURCES.

Statement of the Problem

At Lucrecia R. Kasilag Senior High School, both teachers and students once argued about the
implementation of “no buying food from outside of the school”. This rule includes, students are not allowed
to go outside the campus to buy food or order food due to some unsafety scenario that might occur.
However, students also struggle to buy food at the canteen due to various reasons.
This research aims to understand and compare the food choices of teachers and students.
Specifically, we want to know:
1. What factors affect the food choices of teachers and students when deciding between the
cafeteria and outside food options?
2. What might be the reason why some students prefer to buy food from outside the school?
3. What is the ratio of those who prefer cafeteria food to external food resources in both
students and educators?
Objectives
1. Identify and analyze the main factors affecting the food purchasing choices of teachers and
students of Lucrecia R. Kasilag High School when choosing between the canteen and outside food
sources.
2. Compare teachers' and students' food preferences and choices, exploring potential differences
and similarities in their food source choices.
3. To provide evidence-based insights and recommendations that can inform school policies,
promote healthier eating habits, and enhance the overall food-related experiences of teachers and
students at Lucrecia R. Kasilag Senior High School.
4. To assess the impact of food purchasing choices on the dietary habits, nutritional intake, and
overall well-being of teachers and students within the school environment.
DAY 3
SURVEY ON FOOD PURCHASING CHOICES: COMPARING THE PREFERENCES
OF TEACHERS AND STUDENTS OF LUCRECIA R. KASILAG SENIOR HIGH
SCHOOL, BETWEEN THE CAFETERIA AND OUTSIDE FOOD SOURCES.

Scope and Delimitation

The general intent of this research is to compare the preferences of teachers and students in Lucrecia
R. Kasilag Senior High School, between the cafeteria and outside food sources. This research will focus on
the students' and teachers' preferences regarding this topic. Students might have at least 100 students, 50
from grade 11 and another 50 for grade 12, and at least 10 school facilitators, which may include, the OIC
Principal, assistant principal, and other staff.
This will cover the problems of school facilitators and parents on why students prefer to not eat or
buy food in the school canteen. This study will mainly identify the main factors affecting the food
purchasing of teachers and students when choosing between the canteen and external food sources.
