ENERGY RESOURCES – ENERGY SAVING

Energy resources
 We can divide them into two major groups
 Renewable energy resource
 Non-renewable energy resource
Renewable energy resource
 It does not pollute the environment
 It is able to renew itself
 The most common renewable resources are:

o Solar energy o Biomass

o Windpower o Geo-thermal energy
o Water power

 They depend very much on the weather

Non-renewable energy resource
 They are also called fossil fuels
 The most typical ones which are used in power stations: petroleum/oil, coal, gas
 It takes a long time for these to ‘renew’ themselves
 Burning them will make too much pollution, for example, greenhouse gases, that will lead to global-
warming
Energy saving
 We need to use less electricity to make supplies of coal and oil last longer, which is why we have to use
electricity wisely
