How does Maupassant explore ideas of appearance and reality in “The Necklace”.

The writer presented the theme of appearance and reality by comparing the character of Mrs.
Loisel and other characters in the friction.
Mrs. Loisel is presented as an appearance woman. When she went to the cub, “she danced
ecstatically, wildly, intoxicated with pleasure”. The triple adj used here emphasized how enjoyable
and how focusing she is in this higher-class-cub. She seemed to fit into the structure of higher-
class people’s life though she is very self-abased about her class in reality. This is due to the
necklace and she felt pride of this jewelry. The use of word “pleasure” also emphasizes the pride it
brings, and also shows that she is very enjoyable in this fake emotion. She used illusion to fulfill
her desire and enjoy in the pride it brings, which reveal the appearance of Mrs. Loisel.
