PREPARED BY:
P.E TEACHERS
A. LEARNING COMPETENCIES

The learners will be able to:

 Identify the health-related and skill-related fitness components;

 Know the importance of physical fitness to health;
 Perform an activity that improves health and skill-related fitness
components.

B. INTRODUCTION

Physical fitness is the capacity of an individual in meeting the ordinary and

complex demands of daily life effectively and safely without experiencing fatigue
and has sample time in doing leisure activities. There are two components of
physical fitness: the health-related fitness component and the skill-related fitness
component.

C. DISCUSSION

HEALTH-RELATED COMPONENTS

1. BODY COMPOSITION
Refers to the amount of lean body mass and body fats. The lean body mass
includes water, bone, tissue and muscle while body fat literally refers to the fats
within the body.

Example activity or activity test: Waist circumference.

2. FLEXIBILITY
The ability to move joints without pain over its entire motion of range. It is
affected by the muscles surrounding the joint. The importance of conditioning
and stretching before and after a strenuous activity is necessary.

Example activity or activity test: V Sit & reach.

3. MUSCULAR ENDURANCE
The ability of the muscle to generate force repeatedly and resist fatigue when
performing multiple repetition in a long period of activity.

Example activity or activity test: Push-ups.

4. MUSCULAR STRENGTH
The ability of the muscle to generate the greatest force. It is often measured by
how much weight a person can lift. A good strength level protects an individual
from severe injuries when he/she falls or slips.

Example activity or activity test: Weight lifting.

5. CARDIORESPIRATORY ENDURANCE
Refers to the ability of the whole body to perform activities for a prolonged time
and have the respiratory and circulatory systems work efficiently. It sustains
activity for a longer period without getting tired easily.

Example activity or activity test: Running and jogging.

SKILL-RELATED FITNESS

1. POWER
The ability to apply force at a high rate of speed.

Example activity or activity test: standing long jump.

2. SPEED
The ability to perform a movement in a short time.

Example activity or activity test: Sprinting.

3. AGILITY
The ability to change direction accurately and quickly during movement.

Example activity or activity test: Hexagon test.

4. BALANCE
The ability to maintain equilibrium while in a stationary or moving.

Example activity or activity test: Stork stand.

5. REACTION TIME
The time elapsed between stimulation and the beginning of stimulus reaction.

Example activity or activity test: Stick drop test.

6. COORDINATION
The ability to use the senses with the body Parts to perform motor activities
accurately and smoothly.

Example activity or activity test: Ball throw-and-catch. (CHEST PASS)
