Facts about Jose Rizal

 The Rizal Monument in Luneta Park was not made by a Filipino Artist. Its designer was a Swiss
Sculptor Richard Kissling who won second Prized in Art competition.
 Jose Rizal is regarded by many Germans as the “Father of Philippine Comics” because of some
humorous illustrations he made in Germany. (“The Baptism of Two Brothers” inspired by the
German cartoon characters Max and Moritz.)
 Rizal’s first dog sculpture was Syria, he named it Syria because the dog lost all her puppies and
was eaten by the crocodile.
 Jose Rizal’s First dog was named “Usman” inspired from “Suman” and his second dog
“Verguenza” (means “shame” because his dog tends to poop around their house everywhere).
