Genre
 A type or form
 A category of artistic composition, as in music or
literature, characterized by similarities in form, style
or subject matter
Viewing Material
Any work that does not exist primarily as a written text
particularly it relies on recently developed technologies
like movie clip, trailer, news flash, documentary, etc.

Purpose
The reason for which something is done or created or
for which something exists.

Audience
the (number of) people watching or listening to a particular
television or radio program, reading a particular book, or
visiting a particular website
BASIC GENRES
OF
TV PROGRAMS
NEWS
Newscasts, newsbreaks, and headlines.
Programs reporting on local, regional, national,
and international events. Such programs may
include weather reports, sportscasts,
community news, and other related features or
segments contained within "News Programs."
SPORTS
Programs of live or live-to-tape sports events
and competitions including coverage of
professional and amateur tournaments. The
category also includes programs reviewing and
analyzing professional or amateur competitive
sports events/teams (i.e. pre- and post-game
shows, magazine shows, scripted sports, call-
in and talk shows, etc.).
Drama and Comedy
Entertainment productions of a
fictional nature, including
dramatizations of real events.
They must be comprised
primarily of (i.e. more than 50%)
dramatic performances.
Music and Dance
Programs comprised primarily (i.e.
more than 50%) of live or pre-recorded
performances of music and/or dance,
including opera, operetta, ballet, and
musicals. The performance portion
excludes video clips, voice-overs or
musical performances used as
background.
Game Shows

Programs featuring games of


skills and chances as well as
quizzes
General Entertainment
and Human Interest
Programs primarily about the
world of entertainment and its
people. These programs
include celebrity profiles that
may use promotional footage,
talk or interview shows, award
shows, galas and tributes.
General Entertainment
and Human Interest
They also include entertainment-oriented magazine
shows; fund-raising shows which include
entertainers (i.e. telethons); human interest
programs consisting of live or live-to-tape footage
without significant portions devoted to in-depth
analysis or interpretation; and coverage of
community events such as carnivals, festivals,
parades and fashion shows.

Trailer
It is known as a preview that gives highlight of the
film that will be exhibited in the future at a cinema
usually to attract viewers to watch the movie.

It is an advertisement for a feature-length motion


picture, generally consisting of short extracts of
the film
Movie/Video Clip
It is a strip of motion picture film, especially an
excerpt from a longer film or one inserted as part of
another presentation, as of a telecast or full-length
motion picture

It is just a portion of the entire film usually cut to


pick specific scene or highlight of the movie
Infomercials
It is a blended words of Information and
Commercials
It is relatively a long commercial (usually 15 to 30 minutes
duration) in the format of a television program that contains a
lot of information and seems like a normal program.
It aims at building awareness of a product or service by
demonstrating its use and benefits.

Animation
These are the cartoons we see on screen. Inanimate
objects (such as puppets) or drawings appear to move
in motion pictures or computer graphics

Their themes vary as well as the target age group.


Some are for toddlers, kids, or teenagers.

Examples:
The Lion King, Mulan, Ice Age, The Good Dinosaur
Education
These are programs which have coherent set or
sequence of educational activities designed and
organized to achieve pre-determined learning
objectives or accomplish a specific set of educational
tasks over a sustained period.

Examples:
Animal Atlas, Sineskwela, Mathenik, Mind-S Cool TV
