1. What is one misconception you had relevant to gender and sexuality and how was it overcome?

One of my biggest mistakes that I remember was thinking that gender always had to be equal to
the sexuality. Like, if you’re a lesbian, there’s a way you have to dress, a way you have to style
your hair, and even how you act. Same thing with being gay—there was a stereotype back then
that only boys who “looked” weak and feminine and small could be considered gay because
society basically viewed them in the same group as women—a harmful stereotype by the way,
and that boys who looked buff and strong are considered as a “waste” because they could’ve been
perfect husbands, as the stereotypes go.

2. What Gender and Development concept from the lecture have you observed in real life and what
are your thoughts on it?

As time passed I have observed many new things, especially for gender. People express their
identity in many ways and because of that I never really think about their sexuality anymore. The
first thing I always notice recently has really been just appreciation for how freely and uniquely
people can express themselves now. I have seen it a lot among content creators on the internet
and among celebrities and actors in medias I watch.
