The three basic ingredients of sport skill Environment

instruction are the athlete, the task or skill, and the

Coaches must know the capabilities

different athletes to possess

of creating helpful practice
experience
The three categories of elements that
make up the most sport skills are….

Sensory- Perceptual Elements,

Decision-making Elements,

Motor Control Elements

It is important to allow athletes to spend some
time practicing tasks before providing them
with feedback or additional assistance

Sometimes athletes need time to

experience the task, without assistance to
gain a sense of:-
1. What works,
2. What doesn't,
3. What happens When they try different
things.
Examples of how we can create Performance -
Focused Approach in your practice.

Coaches need to be able to ask the right questions when

deciding how to instruct your athletes (thought, feelings,
behaviors).

Good coaches know when & how to provide process-focused

instructional assistance.

❖ Every time athletes perform a skill, they are also learn

something about it as a result of that experiences (e.g.
basketball lay-up: rhythm & hand-eye coordination)

-Bottom-up
-Sequence & connection
-Game-like situation.
Examples of developmentally approach based on age levels

(approximately 8-12 years)

2. People learn basic skill during

childhood then get better later.

3. Developmentally appropriate practices

should be created.

Emphasize foundations of skills

Visual Learner, learn by reading or seeing pictures.
Verbal learner

Learning by listening: clear verbal

instruction needed.
Verbal-linguistic learning style refers to a person's ability to
reason, solve problems, and learn using language.
Kinesthetic
learner

Learning by doing: need variety of

activities
An example of a kinesthetic learning experience is when a
child learns to use a swing or to ride a bike. They can read
instructions or listen to instructions, but deep learning occurs
via the process of doing.
Information Processing

A sequence of mental events that beings with an

interpretation of the environment, followed by a
decision whether to respond, followed by a plan
for producing the chosen response
