CHAPTER 3

METHODOLOGY

This chapter contains the research methods and procedures the researchers
used to conduct the study. This chapter interprets the research design which focuses
on the subject of the study, the respondents of the study, and the instrument used in
gathering data.

3.1. Research Design

The researchers used a descriptive quantitative and qualitative method to find
more pertinent facts about the study which will enable the researchers to have a
sufficient and precise understanding of the discoveries of data from the local
population, providing valuable insights into the impact of such a change on social
identity and community perception.

3.2. Sample and Sampling Design

The respondents in this study are chosen as they are the best people from
whom essential data regarding the respondents' perceptions can be gathered. The
respondents are composed of a representative size of 400 interviewees, the total
population from the National Capital Region, and were voluntarily participating to be
part of this study. Researchers used stratified sampling randomly based on the given
criteria.

3.3. Data Collection Method

The researcher used the questionnaire and interview guide to collect data and
information to determine the outcomes of the respondents' perspectives in the study.

Documentary analysis was applied as an additional information gathering

approach. Published and unpublished dissertations, articles, books, and research
journals were reviewed to obtain thorough results on the various perspectives of NCR
residents. The method of data collection was using survey questionnaires and
interviews.
3.1. Research
Instrument
Instruments Used
To gather necessary information and justify the present study's scope, specific
research instruments were used.

Questionnaire and Interview

The survey questionnaire and interview serve as the main tools in. gathering
the data. It is a list of planned and written questions related to a particular topic, with
space provided to indicate the response to each question intended for submission to a
number of persons for response, so that answers could be used as answers to the
problem or solution to the study.

The researchers conducted a survey among 400 respondents.

There are 6 parts with 7 questions in the survey that were asked of the
respondents. The first part contains the demographic profile of the respondents, the
second part is composed of the questions about the assessment of respondents on the
social identity stage about renaming NAIA back to MIA.

The Five-point Likert scale is used to make the respondents' responses easily
understood and ensure simplicity. The interpretations of the data gathered from the
respondents were made with the aid of scales and descriptions.
Points Interval Range Verbal Interpretation
4 3.51 - 4.50
Strongly Agree

3 2.51 - 3.50 Agree

2 1.51 - 2.50 Disagree
1 1.00 - 1.50 Strongly Disagree
Interview. It is the process of obtaining information through conversation and
discussions. An interview is considered an expert or knowledgeable source of the
subject matter.

3.2. Statistical Treatment

The following were used to evaluate the gathered data.

Frequency Count and Percentage. This is used to describe the profile of the
respondents.

Weighted Mean. This is employed to analyze the assessment of the

respondents on the assessment of the renaming of Ninoy Aquino International
Airport (NAIA) to Manila International Airport (MIA) and its Social identity
stage.

The researchers use the Likert scale, using the abstract variables the weighted
mean is used to get the average. The variables are separated into categories.

w = weight of each item

Σ𝑤 x = value of each item
𝑥 = 𝑥
𝑤 𝑖 𝑖

𝑤
Likert scale. This is used to interpret and further analyze the quantitative results. The
questionnaire results will be expressed in four categories with corresponding values and
interpreted using the following scale.

RANGE OPTION CATEGORY

3.51 - 4.50 4 Strongly Agree
2.51 - 3.50 3 Agree
1.51 - 2.50 2 Disagree
1.00 - 1.50 1 Strongly Disagree

Pearson Correlation. This is used to determine if there is a relationship

between the respondents' assessment of the renaming of Ninoy Aquino
International Airport (NAIA) to Manila International Airport (MIA) and its
Social identity stage. This regression analysis will assess the strength and
direction that controls the confounding variables.

Multiple Correlation. This is used to determine if there is a relationship

between the respondents' assessment of the renaming of Ninoy Aquino
International Airport (NAIA) to Manila International Airport (MIA) and its
Social identity stage.

3.3. Ethical Considerations

The conducted survey will be considered by interviewing with truthfulness, courtesy,

and respect for human rights according to Shalom (2016).
