MECH1560 Engineering Graphics Detail and Assembly Drawing Assignment 12032021
MECH1560 Engineering Graphics Detail and Assembly Drawing Assignment 12032021
This assignment is due no later than 11:59pm Thursday the 1st of April 2021 (Week 5).
Earlier submissions are encouraged.
This assignment is worth 10% of your assessment for MECH1560
1. The selection of a simple assembly comprised of at least three components. The hardware
must have at least three different non-standard components at least two of which must be
manufactured from any type of metal or aluminum. Standard components are parts that you
can typically buy off the shelf or from a catalogue (nuts, bolts, washers, pins, etc.).
The hardware you choose must not be too difficult or complex in shape. The focus of the
assignment is on the production of Engineering Drawings, not the complexity of the chosen
assembly. You are required to supply its own hardware and you must bring your proposed
assembly to one of your Tutorial sessions so that your Tutor can advise on its suitability.
2. The measurement and preliminary hand sketching (not to be handed in) of the components
that make up the assembly and the assembly itself. Basic measuring instruments will be made
temporarily available to you only during your Tutorial session in exchange for your student
card.
3. Using either SolidWorks (or an alternative CAD system) or traditional hand methods,
produce detailed parts drawings of each part of the assembly and an assembly drawing. The
detailed parts drawings must be either A4 or A3 in size. If your assembly is made up of more
than three components, you are only required to draw the three that are the most critical.
It is recommended that the assembly drawing be A3 in size. The A4 and A3 layouts supplied
with SolidWorks may be used. The drawings MUST be in third angle projection. Modelling
the components (no more than three) in SolidWorks or traditional hand methods to produce
Engineering Drawings.
4. All drawings must conform to AS1100 drawing requirements (refer to the course lecture
slides and or text for details). The detail drawings must fully define the part with all
dimensions, materials etc.
The assembly drawing must show ALL parts (including standard components).
The detail and assembly drawings MUST NOT have an isometric view on the drawing.
Assembly Drawing
The assembly drawing must have the following naming requirement:
#######-a-b-A#
where,
####### = Student number
a = Assembly drawing number (1)
b = Total number of assembly drawings in your submission (1)
A# = Drawing size (A3 or A4) (A3 Recommended)
Take a photograph of your assembly from a position that shows the most features (with a rule
included in the photo).
Submission
Your individual submission will be one compressed .zip file containing;
1. A photograph of your assembly with a rule in view (one off).
2. No more than three detail drawings (pdf format).
3. No more than one assembly drawing (pdf format)
Upload the above files in .zip format into the Assignment submission portal on CANVAS.
The SolidWorks part and assembly files are not to be uploaded.
Ensure that you collect a receipt that confirms your submission for your own records.
