INT BEDROOM NIGHT

...the telephone slides across the bed into Nadja’s hand. She
answers the phone.

NADJA
Hello?

RAINER
Put the phone down. We are going to have this
argument now! I just want to know why? Why would you
do this to me?

NADJA
(sighs)
I’ll call you back.

She hangs up the phone and turns towards Rainer.

NADJA
I think you know why. You already heard me talking
on the phone. You repulse me. I hate your stupid
beard. I hate how you never listen to me. Always
interrupting. I have reached a point where I hate
everything about you.

RAINER
(shouting)
Who is he?

Tears run down his face.

RAINER
(sobbing)
Just tell me who he is?

Nadja is quiet. She avoids eye contact with Rainer as she

begins to speak.

NADJA
It’s your brother.

Rainer punches the wall in frustration.

RAINER
(screaming)
My brother? Gunther? How could you? How could you go
behind my back and sleep with my brother? Why would
you do this to me Nadja?
Rainer begins to sob again. He is shaking with rage.

RAINER
I thought we were in love! I was planning to propose
to you. I pictured our lives years in the future
with a beautiful house and children. Please, Nadja.
Please don’t leave me for him. I’ll do whatever it
takes. I’ll work on being less repulsive to you.
Things can go back to how they were. I love you,
Nadja. I love you so much.

Rainer moves towards Nadja and kneels at her feet, hugging her
legs. He sobs louder. Nadja looks irritated.

NADJA
Get up you repulsive man.

She uses her telekinetic powers to launch him across the room.
He slams against the wall and falls to the floor. He slowly
stands, still sobbing.

NADJA
We don’t have a future together you oaf! It’s over.
Especially because…

She pauses. Rainer looks at her, expectantly.

RAINER
Because? Tell me why? Why can’t we put all of this
behind us and be together?

NADJA
Because I’m carrying his child.

Silence fills the air. Rainer’s sadness turns to rage.

RAINER
(shouting)
If I can’t have you, no one can.

Rainer reaches to the bedside drawer. He opens it and grabs

the pistol. He shoots her in the heart. Nadja falls to the
ground. Rainer stands in silence, shocked by what he has just
done.

The door bursts open. Gunther enters.

GUNTHER
How dare you, Rainer! She was the love of my life.
 RAINER
No! She was the love of my life!

Rainer launches for Gunther in rage. Gunther uses his

telekinetic powers to grab the pistol. He shoots Rainer in the
forehead. Gunther begins to sob and kneels down by Nadja’s
dead body.

Gunther
(screaming)
Why?
