“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time”.

-Thomas Merton, No man is an

island, 1995
The beauty of the art inspires us to understand our own involvement and brings out our own
ability to express our ideas. Through an art project, a person can fully express themselves, discover their
own personality, likes, and feelings about what they have seen or heard. Some people decide to remain in
their comfort zones, never taking a risk, striving for perfection, and avoiding making mistakes. However,
there are no limitations on what you can do when creating art. You are under no obligation to maintain
your conservatism or control yourself. You can “lose yourself” by relaxing and being carefree. I believed
that’s because of art, I became even more aware of who I am. I discovered and lost myself in art there.
As someone who has created some art, art has helped me in discovering my areas of passion,
which has allowed me to discover a part of myself. I didn’t think I had the ability. However, my sixth-
grade teacher chose me to participate in a drawing competition after praising or expressing admiration for
my drawing. And while I’m creating an artwork, I can lose myself in the process and express myself
whatever I want, without limitations. However, I realized that I was not very good at art. And as time
goes on, I lose myself because I give up drawing since I don’t have enough trust in my ability to draw. I
believed that’s because of art, I became even more aware of who I am. I discovered and lost myself in art
there.

“ Art is the most effective mode of communications that exists”. -John Dewey, Art as Experience,
1934
The ability of art to encourage both emotional and intellectual responses while also conveying
composed meaning makes it the most powerful form of communication that exists. Another definition of
art is the organization of a meaning with the capacity to provide a response from the reader or to serve a
didactic goal. But how is it that artwork is able to convey in a way that makes it the most powerful form
of communication now in use? The purpose of the artist is the conveyance, or expression of emotion or
response. The author’s main goal is to convey his or her ideas. The singer or actor seeks to express
emotions and/or feelings through song or playing. Art can establish a shared understanding between the
artist and the audience for the duration that it is on display by having the ability to discover or express an
emotional or mental reaction in the eyes of the viewer. The artist is able to communicate in this way
without the risk of misunderstanding. Being able to bring out an emotion or feelings from the viewer in
any kind of art.
John Dewey meant by that, in my opinion, that artists sometimes convey an idea or an emotion
through their artwork, which we can then relate to in a variety of ways. Being moved by a piece of art
can transform us for many people. There are numerous ways to communicate through art without using
words. They can sometimes be plainly visible, such as in a celebratory photo of a political figure.
However, there are also instances when a work of art communicates through aspects you might not
immediately notice, such as the scheme of colors, composition (the underlying form and how elements
interact to one another), or the way the forms are connected or parted ways. More intensely than could be
understandable through words, artists can express their thoughts and feelings through their works of art.
