Is the war on Ukraine waged by Russia justifiable?

The world looks on as Russia began one of the largest military invasion since World War II with
its invasion of Ukraine. Looking back at history, this could be viewed in a similar light to what Germany
did when it invaded territories it deemed was theirs until it invaded Poland, igniting the second world
war. This war in my opinion is not justifiable as Ukraine has been an independent country since the early
1990’s.

Ukraine officially declared itself an independent country on 24 August 1991, when the
communist Supreme Soviet (parliament) of Ukraine proclaimed that Ukraine would no longer follow the
laws of USSR and only the laws of the Ukrainian SSR, de facto declaring Ukraine's independence from
the Soviet Union.

Russian president Vladimir Putin claims that is goal was to “protect people subjected to bullying
and genocide and aim for the "demilitarisation and de-Nazification" of Ukraine”. However, there has
been no genocide in Ukraine: it is a vibrant democracy, led by a president who is Jewish. This is more so
an attempt to block the threat of Russia being surrounded by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization
(NATO) countries.

Russia even went to the extent of threatening to jail journalists who brands his move as “war” or
“invasion,” and refers to it as a “special military operation.” To me, this war will never be justifiable, as
Putin continues to push his own selfish narrative over the lives of innocent civilians and young soldiers
fighting for old politician’s selfish agenda.
