Verbs

Verbs tell us what a noun/a pronoun is (state) or what a noun/pronoun does (action).
Verbs are of two types: State verbs and action verbs.
State verbs denote the state of a noun/a pronoun. The verb tells us what a noun or a pronoun
is or has.
List of state verbs: am, is, are, was, were, will be, has, had, have and will have.
Eg: I am a doctor.
He is a handsome man.
They are smart.
Raja was a good student in the class.
The students were happy with the teacher.
I will be successful.
She has a puppy.
We have good facilities in our college.
Vimala had three cars.
He will have his own house next year.
Action verbs: It tell us what a noun/a pronoun does. There are 4 forms of verbs. They are
Present form – eg. See
Past form – eg. Saw
Present participle or Gerund – eg. Seeing
Past participle – eg. Seen
Types of action verbs: Regular verbs, irregular verbs
Regular verbs: Regular verbs follow a standard pattern by the addition of‘d’, ‘ed’, ‘ied’,
during the conversion from one form to another.
Eg.

Irregular verbs
Irregular verbs do not follow a standard pattern during conversion:

Types of irregular verbs:
Strong verbs
Weak verbs
Special verbs
Verbs that have all the three forms different is strong verb.
Eg:

Verbs that have two of the three forms similar are weak verbs.
Eg:

Verbs that remain the same in all the three forms of verbs are special verbs.
