INTRODUCTION
➢ For preserving our complete health and for preventing diseases
we need to have a healthy and perfect food diet.

➢ The commodities available today including our staple food


‘rice’ is not at all helpful to lead a completely healthy life

➢ Knowing or unknowingly , due to inconvenience or because of wish, we are nowadays


consuming the food which are not at all helpful in prevailing a better health. And those food
items which look good and taste good never do any good for our body and has a lot of
adverse effects like obesity, diabetes, creating hormone imbalance etc..

➢ One of the permanant solution for the above issue is to include positive millets in
our daily diet.
Environmental degradation due to modern food diet is a pressing
issue that encompasses various interconnected challenges.

WHAT ARE MILLETS ?

POSITIVE MILLETS
➢ Positive millets refer to the various types of millets that are highly nutritious
and beneficial for health.
➢ Among positive millets, the smallest at the same type prominent is ‘LITTLE
MILLETS’.
LITTLE MILLETS
▪ Little millet, scientifically known as Panicum
sumatrense , is one of the varieties of millets

▪ They are known as ‘chama’ in Malayalam and off


white/creamish colour

▪ Little millet is believed to have originated in


Southeast Asia and has been cultivated for
thousands of years. It is a hardy crop that grows well
in diverse agro-climatic conditions.
▪ It is commonly grown in countries like India, China,
Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and some African nations.

DIET
1. Little millet serves as a healthy tweak for rice. Any recipe that demands staple rice
can be prepared using little millet.
2. It can be dry roasted and mixed in wheat flour for adding crunch to your chapatis,
breads and muffins.
3. Little millet flour can be used in preparing baby food, as porridge or even as a
stuffing in rolls/ wraps or parathas.
4. You can make upma by adding it after spices and other ingredients and cooking
with twice the amount of water. Chama/little millets upma makes an excellent meal.
5. You can make Chama Dosa, Tomato rice, lemon rice, Biriyani, halwa, kesari or
payasam
6. The whole grains can be sprouted and used in salads.
7. You can even pop them and eat them like popcorns.
