Introduction
• Building construction is the process of planning, designing, and
constructing structures that define our surroundings. It provides shelter,
facilitates daily activities, drives economic growth, and impacts the
environment. In a rapidly evolving world, it is central to our way of life
and our future sustainability.

• Building construction is of paramount importance as it addresses our

need for shelter, safety, and infrastructure. It drives economic growth,
creates jobs, and influences our urban environments. Embracing
sustainable construction practices is crucial for a more environmentally
responsible and resilient future.

Soil Excavation for
Foundation

Procedure for construction of

foundation starts with a decision
on its depth, width, and marking
layout for excavation and
centerline of foundation.
Foundation is the part of the
structure below the plinth level in
direct contact of soil and transmits
the load of superstructure to the
ground.
Footings
• Footings are the bottom part of a
foundation that support the foundation
and prevent settling. They are typically
made of concrete with rebar
reinforcement that has been poured into
an excavated trench. The purpose of
footings is to safely transmit the load of
the upper building to the ground and is
the first construction member of the
building. The basic method of footing
design is to distribute the load so that the
size per area of the load transmitted from
the upper part of the building is less than
the strength that the ground can
support. Footings are especially important
in areas with troublesome soils.

Construction Plinth Beam
A plinth beam is a reinforced concrete beam
constructed between a wall and its foundation. Its
primary purpose is to distribute the weight of the
columns across the foundation uniformly, reducing
pressure on the foundation and preventing soil erosion.
Plinth beams are commonly used in areas with a high
risk of soil erosion or in buildings constructed on soft
soils. They are rectangular stone blocks that support the
pillars and sub-columns of a building and serve as a wall
dividing the ground floor from the ground level.
Columns
A column is a structural element in architecture
and structural engineering that transmits the
weight of the structure above to other structural
elements below. It is a large round support with a
capital and a base or pedestal, made of stone .

For the purpose of wind or earthquake

engineering, columns may be designed to resist
lateral forces. Other compression members are
often termed "columns" because of the similar
stress conditions
Curing
Curing is the process of maintaining
satisfactory temperature and moisture
conditions in concrete long enough for
hydration to develop the desired
concrete properties.

The potential strength and durability

of concrete will be fully developed only
if concrete is properly cured
Why JUTE bags
are tied to
columns during
CURING ?
Jute bags are used to cure
concrete columns
because they help retain
water for longer periods of
time. Jute bags reduce
evaporation loss and hold a
significant amount of
moisture for curing the
concrete.

Conclusion
• In conclusion, the construction
industry's evolution relies on
embracing new techniques and
technologies. Adapting to
innovative methods enhances
efficiency, sustainability, and
safety in building projects.
Staying open to change ensures
that construction continues to
meet the demands of modern
society, creating structures that
are not only functional but also
environmentally responsible.
