AGE: 14-15
UNIT: Describing people
AIMS: Students will learn key phrases for describing people – their appearance and personality
Opposite adjectives
MATERIALS: Their books, song handouts
FORM OF WORK : Whole class, Group work, Individual

INTRODUCTION

- Greeting children
- Attendance check
- Question routines (How are you?, What did you do yesterday?, etc.)

WARM-UP – Describing yourself

Observing if the children can express their ideas.

Ask one or two individual students to describe themselves. They will use easy adjectives they
already know (tall,small,fat,thin,good,..). Make sure they describe their physical appearance
as well as their personality. Elicit as much adjectives as possible and write them on the board.
(5 min.)

EXERCISE 1 – Guess the character features according to face

Open your books on page 39. There is a chart describing face reading. – What is face
reading? Have you ever heart it? If the children don´t know the answer explain them face
reading is describing what someone´s character is like by looking at their face. Go through the
chart and practise the new face vocab with them. Then ask the questions from this exercise:
A person who likes being busy in their free time is...
A person who wants to be successful is...
Children have to fill in the gaps according to the chart. (6 min.)

EXERCISE 2 – Making sentences with personality adjectives

In this exercise there are 2 photos of famous people. The first is Scarlett Johansson and the
second is Daniel Craig. Children have to make sentences by using personality adjectives from
the face reading chart while looking at the photos.
I think Scarlett Johansson is friendly because she´s got a round face. (6 min.)

ANALYSE YOUR PARTNER´S PERSONALITY


Observing if the students can express their opinions and their creativity.

Students work in pairs. Tell students to look at face reading chart again and make notes on
their partner´s face like the notes on Scarlett Johansson and Daniel Craig. They should then
write a short description of their partner´s personality. Then ask some students to read their
texts to the class and ask other students if they agree with the descriptions. –Do you agree
with the description of Ema? (10 min.)

EXERCISE 3 – Opposite adjectives

Children have list of some adjectives in their books. They have to divide them into 2 columns
according to opposite meaning. You can help them by miming. (5 min.)

SONG – Listening the song and complete the missing words

Give students handouts of song in which are missing words. Then play the song and students
have to listen carefully to be able to complete the appropriate words. They will complete the
words regarding to appearance. Then play it again and check the answers. (8 min.)

HOMEWORK

Tell students to describe their favourite actor, singer,... (2 min.)
