Type your responses directly in the template.
What are the desired results, including the big ideas, math and/or science content standards, knowledge, and skills?
W ● List BOTH the math and science content standards and what the students will know and be able to do.
SC.K.P.13.1 Observe that a push or a pull can change the way an object is moving.

● How is this STREAM lesson centering on an ENGINEERING DESIGN PROCESS EDP activity?
Students will be toy engineers in charge of creating a new toy that is fun to move on the floor. It also has to be a toy that can push or
pull. They will be tons of random objects that students can use to build and design their toy.

Why would the students care about this knowledge and these skills?
● Craft the driving problem that will lead to the development of the integrated tasks that provide for the application of the
content, knowledge, and skills.
The problem is that a toy company needs help in creating a new toy. Students have already become experts on motion of objects
so they want their help.

● List some essential inquiry-based driving questionS that can be answered as a result of the learning. (Refer to the higher
levels of Bloom’s taxonomy of Higher Order Thinking H.O.T. questions/prompts here)

What materials can I use to push or pull other objects

How are Science are Math concepts being integrated in this lesson?
H ● There are many standards that students can learn in a more engaging way through the engineering design process. Students
love to create things with their hands and it makes learning more memorable and fun. Students also love playing and there was
a research article I read that explained how playing has a huge role in learning. Students will be designing toys that can be fun
to play with on the floor. However the toy needs to include some sort of push or pull. They will need to build it using different
materials that they are given (cardboard, lids, rope, rubber bands, etc..)
How do I plan to meet this goal?
● First students will plan out their design, they will observe different materials. It will be sort of like a trial and error where they
adjust their design along the way. Then they will have a finished product.

What Evidence of learning will be used, and how will I Evaluate the final product or project?
E How can you use a program like Scoutlier to assist in your collection of student work/data?

Preassessment.
● prior knowledge: BtoK.4y-K.SI.3.1 Demonstrates knowledge related to physical science

Formative. How will I measure student progress toward understanding?

● Establish the assessment tools or strategies you will use to monitor and inform instruction. Consider including a data
collection tool such as Scoutlier!
● I will use Scoutlier where students will first take a picture of their plan, then there will be a step where they share what they
have so far, then students will take a video of their finished product where they will advertise their toy design.

Summative. What criteria are needed for students to demonstrate understanding of the standards, content, and skills?
● Create a checklist of criteria for use in a rubric or just include a brief rubric.
3- plans design, creates, and advertises a toy that can push or pull
2-plans design, creates but does not demonstrate how toy pushes or pulls
1-student does not create a toy for the toy company that pushes or pulls

Rigor
R ● What materials can I use to cause my toy to push or pull?

● Can you explain why our toy is able to push or pull another object?
● Can you distinguish between a push and a pull?

Relevance
Yes, toy companies are always trying to think of new and fun toys but most importantly, toys that can actually move or are fun to use.
Not only that but this also introduces students to the process of inventing new things for the world.

I can tell students about toy stores like “Toys R us” going out of business because not enough kids are buying their toys. So
it’s their job to advertise their toy so other kids in the class can be interested in it.

Engage
E ● “The toy company needs your help!”
I will explain the problem which is that the toy store is going out of business and they need a fun toy that will attract customers so
they don’t go out of business.

Engineering Design
● Students will use scoulier to share their engineering design process by taking pictures of their plans and videos of their toy,
and making a video to advertise their toy.

Explain
● students will be able to test out other students' toys and share what they enjoy about playing with their design. They will also
watch each other's advertisement videos. They will be able to compliment each other based on what materials they used and
their creativity.
