GERMAN CONDITIONS HAVE GONE FROM BAD TO WORSE

Economic Problem 1919-1923

As a consequence of signing
the Treaty of Versailles, the
Weimar Governemnt was
obliged to pay reperation but
of course, in the 1922 due to
the degrading economic
problems they were unable too
pay there next instalements.
The french believed the
Weimar Government should
oay and decided to send
60,000 officers to battle for
th3e next industrail resources
produced by the Ruhr civilians.
This cause the governemnt to
print more money in order to
pay the striking Germans
workers in the Ruhr, the
inflation rate rose dramatically
that the German currency lost
virtually all value this was called
Hyperinflation.
Hyperinflation and the Future of the Ruhr
As a resullt of the
Hyperinflation crisis, any
German with savings lost the
most, as their money lost its
value The elderly suffered
greatly due to fixed income.
Germans who wer paid monthly
were effected. Those who had
taken out loans found it much
easier to pay them bakc. There
were food shortages, and there
was a huge rise in crime as
Germans became desperate.
In 1924, the crisis was rbought
to an end by the Dawes Plan
and the introduction of a new
currency, the Rentenmark. The
German economy was now
dependent on loans from the
USA.
Hyper-inflation had serious
repurcussions for our Weimer
Government and we are all
hoping for a new beginning and
not a place where war is all
around.
