Meds in OR

Diazepam
Some patients who are normally nervous and prone to insomnia take diazepam tablets immediately
before or on the day before the surgery to relieve intraoperative tension, which reduces fluctuations
in intraoperative BP. Diazepam, also known as Valium, is a long-acting benzodiazepine.

Ephedrine
is used to treat low blood pressure in patients who receive anesthesia during surgery. This medicine
may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.

Fentanyl
is used to relieve severe pain during and after surgery. It is also used with other medicines just
before or during an operation to help the anesthetic (numbing medicine) work better. Fentanyl
belongs to the group of medicines called narcotic analgesics (pain medicines).

Midazoam
is an injection that helps you relax or sleep before a surgical procedure. It can also block your
memory of the procedure. A healthcare provider will inject this medication into a muscle or a vein in a
hospital or clinic setting. The brand name of this medication is Versed®.

Morphine
is used to relieve moderate to severe pain. It may also be used before or during surgery with an
anesthetic (medicine that puts you to sleep). Morphine belongs to the group of medicines called
narcotic analgesics (pain medicines). It acts on the central nervous system (CNS) to relieve pain.

Nalbuphine
As a semi-synthetic opioid analgesic with analgesic potency comparable to morphine, nalbuphine is
primarily used to prevent and treat moderate to severe pain, including pain treatment before to
surgery, following surgery, and during childbirth (Errick and Heel, 1983).

Pethidine
used both intraoperatively and postoperatively for prevention and treatment of shivering. In a
majority of adults 25 mg pethidine i.v. is effective in treating postoperative shivering(nanginginig).

Promethazine
also used to relax and sedate patients before and after surgery, during labor, and at other times.
Promethazine is also used to prevent and control nausea and vomiting that may occur after surgery,
and with other medications to help relieve pain after surgery.

Diphenhydramine
is used to relieve red, irritated, itchy, watery eyes; sneezing; and runny nose caused by hay fever,
allergies, or the common cold. Diphenhydramine is also used to relieve cough caused by minor
throat or airway irritation. Diphenhydramine is also used to prevent and treat motion sickness, and
to treat insomnia (difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep). Diphenhydramine is also used to control
abnormal movements in people who have early stage parkinsonian syndrome (a disorder of the
nervous system that causes difficulties with movement, muscle control, and balance) or who are
experiencing movement problems as a side effect of a medication.

Methoclopramide
is also used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy or that may occur after
surgery. Metoclopramide injection is also sometimes used to empty the intestines during certain
medical procedures. Metoclopramide injection is in a class of medications called prokinetic agents.

Ketorolac
is used to relieve moderately severe pain, usually after surgery. Ketorolac is in a class of medications
called NSAIDs. It works by stopping the body's production of a substance that causes pain, fever, and
inflammation.

Paracetamol
is useful for relieving postoperative pain. It has been suggested that the use of this drug might have
higher analgesic effects and lower the need for postoperative opioids compared with other
analgesics, and therefore, its administration seems to be preferable in various type of surgeries

Ranitidine
useful method to decrease the volume while increasing the pH of gastric contents, and therefore
may reduce the number of patients at risk for aspiration pneumonitis in ambulatory laparoscopic
procedures who receive an anesthesia. prevents postoperative transfusion-induced depression of
delayed hypersensitivity .

Omeprazole
will improve the gastric environment at the time of induction of anaesthesia. reduces the amount of
acid your stomach makes. It's widely used to treat indigestion and heartburn, and acid reflux. It's
also taken to prevent and treat stomach ulcers.

Tramadol
is used to relieve moderate to moderately severe pain, including pain after surgery.

Nicadipine
It produces a rapid decrease in blood pressure without severe hypotension, sinus arrest, cardiac
depression, or clinically significant tachycardia, while it increases myocardial contractility and cardiac
output.

Norepinephrine
is often used in cardiac surgical patients but for <24 h with a low dose. Many preoperative and
surgical factors are associated with norepinephrine use. Patients supported by norepinephrine have a
higher incidence of major postoperative events.

Tranexamicacid
As part of a perioperative blood management program, tranexamic acid can be used to help reduce
blood loss and mitigate exposure to blood transfusion.

Atropine
is given before anaesthesia to decrease mucus secretions, such as saliva. During anaesthesia and
surgery, atropine is used to help keep the heart beat normal. Atropine sulfate monohydrate is also
used to block or reverse the adverse effects caused by some medicines and certain type of pesticides.

Clonidine
Clonidine is an antihypertensive drug with a central effect on Alpha-2 receptors and has been used as
a premedication for reducing pain and also nausea and vomiting and tremor after surgery. This drug
performs its antihypertensive effect through reduction in sympathetic outgoing potential

Chlorpheniramine
Preoperative single dose of chlorpheniramine maleate is an effective medication that may be used to
prevent or reduce the severity of emergence agitation with minimal cardio-respiratory depression.

Dexamethasone
During surgery, dexamethasone is given to the patient to reduce the risk of nausea and vomiting
after surgery, to relieve pain, and to make the patient feel better. However, whether short‐term
treatment with dexamethasone leads to any adverse side effects is not known.

Epinephrine
is commonly used in plastic and reconstructive surgeries to reduce the blood loss, and to achieveing
the lowest and the most effective dosage of epinephrine can improve the results of the surgery.

Furosemide
Lasix, also known as furosemide, is a diuretic and is a prescription medication commonly used after
surgery. It is given to increase urine output which in turn can decrease blood pressure, edema, fluid
overload, and can stimulate the kidneys when they are not working properly.

Hydralazine
is used to treat high blood pressure. Hydralazine is in a class of medications called vasodilators.

Neotigmine
is for the reversal of the effects of non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agents after surgery.
The use of neostigmine is primarily found in the context of the reversal of neuromuscular blockade
during the administration of anesthesia to patients undergoing surgery that require muscle relaxation.

Lanoxin
is used in the treatment of chronic heart failure and/or atrial fibrillation and flutter (irregular heart
rhythms caused by an electrical problem in the upper chambers of the heart).
