C. Verb (simple Present Tense)

Struktur kalimat verbal pada simple present tense :

He /she /It + infinitive + -s/es

Subyek (I, you, we dan they) langsung diikuti kata kerja infinitive, tetapi jika subyeknya orang ketiga tunggal
(He, She, It) maka kata kerja infinitivnya harus ditambah -s atau –es. Untuk itu berlaku ketentuan sbb :
a. Kata kerja yang berakhiran –y yang didahului oleh huruf mati (konsonan), maka -y di ganti dengan huruf
‘i’baru kemudian di tambah –es.
Contoh :
- I study English - He studies English
- We try to come - Rina (she) tries to come
- They play computer - She plays computer

b. Kata kerja yang berakhiran –x, -s, -ch, -sh, dan –o akan mendapat tambahan akhiran –es jika subjeknya
orang ketiga tunggal.

Contoh :
- I pass the exam - She passes the exam
- You fix my bike - You fixes my bike.
- You teach students - Ronald teaches student
- They go to school - Rina goes to school

c. Kata kerja yang berakhiran –y yang didahului oleh huruf hidup (vocal), maka langsung di tambah –s jika
subyeknya orang ketiga tunggal.
Contoh :

-. I pay the bills - He pays the bills


- You buy the book - she buys the book
- we stay at home - Leni stays at home.

d. Selain ketentuan di atas, pada umumnya akan mendapatkan akhiran –s jika subyeknya orang ketiga
tunggal.
Contoh :
- You sing a song - She sings a song
- We read a comic - Alex reads a comic
- I speak English - Anton speaks English.

A. (Bertanya tentang waktu.)
What time is it? (Jam berapa sekarang?)

 We can use cardinal numbers to tell time. There are some ways to tell time as follows
1) What time is it?
2) Can you tell me the time is?
3) What is the time?
 Here are some useful expressions to tell the time
a.m = Pagi (24.00-12.00) p.m = Sore (12.00 – 24.00)
past = Lebih to = kurang
a quarter = ¼ 15 menit a half = ½ 30 menit
o’clock = tepat

- 08:45: It’s a quarter to nine atau It’s eight forty-five. Atau It’s forty-five past eight. Atau, It’s fifteen to
nine.
- 10:10 : It’s ten ten atau It’s ten past ten. Sebaliknya = tidak lazim (terlalu jauh)
- 07:30 : It’s a half past seven. Atau, It’s a half to eight.
- 07:45 : It’s a quarter to eight
-08:15 : It’s a quater past eight.
-08:30 : It’s a half past eight. Atau, It’s a half to nine.
