PROBLEM SOLVING (Solve each problem with complete solution and box your final answer)

1. A “moving sidewalk” in an airport terminal building moves at 1.0 m/s and is 35.0 m long. If a woman
steps on at one end and walks at 1.5 m/s relative to the moving sidewalk, how much time does she
require to reach the opposite end if she walks (a) in the same direction the sidewalk is moving? (b) In the
opposite direction?

2. A canoe has a velocity of 0.40 m/s southeast relative to the earth. The canoe is on a river that is flowing
0.50 m/s east relative to the earth. Find the velocity (magnitude and direction) of the canoe relative to the
river.

For items 3 to 7. A stone is thrown into the air at a 15 m/s at an angle of 30 degree.
3. What is the height reached of the stone?
4. What is the time taken by the stone in the whole travel?
5. What is the ranged reached by the stone?
6. A ball is projected with initial velocity of 18 m/s at an angle of 25 degree. What is the time of flight of
the ball?
7. What is the horizontal displacement of the object thrown into the air at a velocity of 30 m/s with an
angle of 28 degree?

8. What is the horizontal range of a projectile in motion with the initial velocity of 22 m/s at an angle of
35˚?

9. What is the tangential acceleration of the object if it accelerates uniformly in circular motion with
changes in velocity of 80 m/s an in the total changes of time of 25 seconds?

10. The ball is tied to a string to whirl it having a radius of 50 cm at a velocity of 1.2 m/s. What will be the
acceleration of the ball?

11. What is the acceleration of the bicycle if the velocity is 1.5 m/s in a circular path with the radius of 75
meters?

12. A jeepney follows a circular road with a radius of 300 meters at a speed of 30 m/s. What is the
magnitude of the jeepney’s acceleration?

13. A 450 kg jeep taking a turn on a 350 m radius road at 22 m/s. Calculate the centripetal force exerted
on the jeep.

14. What is the total force of acting on the 450 kg-tricycle is the acceleration is 4m/s2?

15. What is the centripetal force exerted on a 500 kg jeep taking a turn on a 300 m radius road on
horizontal ground at 20 m/s?
