Number of When we are talking about a teeny-bopper, romantic drama movie that we watched in
Participants high school, A Walk to Remember is mostly included. Distributed by Warner Bros. in
2002, the film earned a movie gross of $47,494,916 worldwide (Box Office Mojo,
n.d.). According to Thomas (2002), the film could be considered as a feel good movie
for families and for those who wants to cry their emotions out. Of course, lovers of
romantic dramas knows that anything written by Nicholas Sparks, the legend of
tearjerker films, will bring out the crybaby in the viewers of his book-turned-to-film
movies (Devoe, 2017). The angsty lovesick teen audience would most likely relate
themselves to the characters and theme of the film which is the bad boy meets good
girl then teen romance starts to begin but tragedy happened (Dolak, 2017). Not only
the young audiences patronized the film, but also the Christian community who
believed that the film, especially the lead female character, promotes the values a
Christian woman should upheld (Bagby, n.d.). Until now, people seems to love the
movie because of its undying emotional effect (Dolak, 2017). Nicholas Sparks seems
to connect in a single-demographic audience which are the ages 21 and under female
audiences mostly the teens and college-age girls (Paul, 2016).
Pattern of People seems to really love the genre that A Walk To Remember belongs to which is
Behavior the "love tradgedy" movies (Paul, 2016). According to the Psychologists, people love
teen-drama movies a lot because they make it as an escape to their own problems by
not focusing on it but rather on the over-dramatic plot lines that these movies contain
(Asher, 2017). Of course, another factor is that people are so obsessed with love (Paul,
2016). When people watches these romantic films, they tend to feel the intensity of
falling in love all over again and cling to those expectations than face the harsh reality
of falling in love in the real world (Why People Keep Watching Romance Films,
2011).
Long Period 16 years ago, A walk to remember aired on the big screen and until now it was never
of Time forgotten. Metro news, a UK magazine blog, even labeled it as the best 00's teen movie
(Bassi, 2017). Just recently this year, fans went crazy when the stars of the movie —
Mandy Moore and Shane West, tweeted and posted on Facebook a picture of them
together in the movie reminiscing the past and celebrating the movie's anniversary
(Kinane, 2018). The picture shared by Moore gathered over 50 000 likes. Aside from
that, Nicholas Sparks became successful in making "love tragedy" movies popular
again after Shakespeare's, Jane Austen and many more, that today a lot of movies are
produced with the same genre like — Me Before You, the Fault in our Stars and many
more movies that emotionally torture us (Paul, 2016).
Cause Of course — when we are talking about classic doomed romances, or those tragic love
stories, Shakespeare is the original king of those (Whipps, & Melina, 2011). Who
could forget about his Romeo and Juliet that made death in love stories fascinating to
watch (Cole, n.d.). Nicholas Spark, the author of A walk to remember, even had an
issue when he compared himself to Shakespeare and told that he is writing a modern
day "greek tragedies" where he was bashed by different magazines because for them
greek tragedies are all about fatal flaws of man and not some random death in the
midst of romances (Snider, 2008). But on the other hand, A walk to remember was
personal to Nicholas Sparks because it is inspired by an event in his life when his sister
suffered from cancer and it is also her, whom he dedicated the book and movie too
(Bassi, T.).
Consequence Christian community considered A Walk To Remember as a movie which somehow
possess a positive message to Christian women for it take stand on some issues like
dating morals, dress codes, strong faith in God or to sum it up: being conservative
 (McClure, 2002). Even when he had produced some generic love stories after A Walk
to Remember, this movie made way for Nicholas Sparks to become one of the best-
selling author of our generation (Love will tear us apart: the Nicholas Sparks formula,
n.d.). But psychologists also warns the romantic film viewers because sometimes these
romance themed movies affect real relationships of viewers who are having the wrong
interpretation about love after watching these films (Harrell, 2008). On the other hand,
some find these romantic and sad films therapeutic for they can compare their life to
the characters on the film which has worse experiences that will make them feel better
about their own situation (Koerner, 2013) which researchers call as the "tragedy
paradox" (Perry, 2012).

Microtrend Microtrend was defined by globaltrendspotter (2017) as a kind of trend that is
consistent to its format but also helps as an inspiration on the creations in 21 st
century. The movie itself, A Walk to remember, was a micro trend for it only affect
certain group in the society but the time range has been more than a decade now
meaning it's been passed on to generations and influences different movies of today.
In our societal context, it affects the high school-college age people and those who
are female, mostly (Paul, 2016). It can be considered as a trend because the movie,
after 16 years, was still talked about and included in movie recommendations of teen
magazines most of the time. The actors and actresses, Mandy Moore and Shane West,
who portrayed the role even considered the movie as a phenomenal experience
(Kinane, 2018).
