B JOB DESCRIPTION
B1 Overall purpose of the job.
To plan and coordinate the construction and maintenance work on proposed projects in the
company’s industrial and domestic premises within agreed norms and ensure that work is
efficiently undertaken at the most economic cost without sacrificing the quality of materials
and workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
Preparing plans and tender documentation
• Prepare conceptual plans and preliminary drawings of proposed projects with their cost
estimates.
• Prepare tender documents covering technical specifications, bills of quantities and
architectural drawings among others, sufficient to enable invitation of tenders.
• Invite tender bids, receive, shortlist them, evaluate, recommend and participate in final
negotiation with prospective contractors.
• Hand over sites to contractors and supervise the erection of temporary structures and
stocking of materials/equipment.
• Constantly monitor the design and structural progress of the project and ensure good
quality work.
• Arrange and coordinate site meetings with interested parties to review progress and
solve problems, take minutes and follow-up action.
Carrying out surveys and tests and procure standard materials
Carry out surveys on building construction materials for comparison and updating basic
rates.
Carry out random tests on cement and all other materials in the site laboratory and keep
accurate record of such tests.
Prepare an analysis of materials and construction task rates for cost comparison purposes.
Record keeping and maintenance of registers
Record causes of delays and hold ups and agree on solutions with contractors.
Prepare weekly and monthly reports on work progress and update the Civil Engineer on the
same.
Maintain accurate register on material consumption for accountability.
Supervision
Oversee the routine painting of company houses and other premises.
Oversee the maintenance of steel fabrication in the estate.
C Knowledge, qualifications & Experience
C1.1 A minimum of a bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized Institution.
C1.2 Experience, Skills and Competences:
- Should have 5 year working experience
- Computer literate (Ms office) a must have and ability to use SAP (MM module) will
be an added advantage.
- Proven Supervisory, leadership and administration skills.
Communication Skills
Able to generate reports and with very good communication skills both written and verbal.
Ms Office:
Should be able to generate workshop break down reports using excel and word.
Analytical Skills:

Able to analyse reports and interpret them for implementation purpose.
