Learning Outcomes:

At the end of 60-minutes session, the students will be able to:


recall at least three types of foods that are considered healthy for adolescents
(R);
explain the importance of consuming these healthy foods during adolescence
in simple terms through oral recitation (U); and
categorize a list of foods as “healthy” or “unhealthy” for adolescents,
providing reasons for their choices based on what they’ve learned about the
importance of nutrition during adolescence (Ap).

TEEN NUTRITION
The students will watch a short video about healthy eating.
After that, the teacher will ask the 3 following questions:
1. What do you think the video is all about?
2. What are some foods that you consider as good and nutritious to
eat during your teenage years?
3. Why is it crucial to pick nutritious foods when you're a teenager?

B. Lesson Proper
1. ACTIVITY
NUTRIQUEST
The class will be divided into 5 groups.
Each group will be assigned the task of listing at least three foods
that they believe are healthy for teenagers.
They will have 3 minutes to complete the task.
Afterward, each group will select 1 representative to present and
explain their chosen foods.

2. ANALYSIS
The teacher will ask the students the following three questions.
After that, the teacher will allow the students to guess what their topic
will be.
Finally, the teacher will present the learning outcomes.

Guide questions:
1. Why is it important for teenagers to eat healthy foods?
2. What benefits do these healthy foods bring to ones’ body?
3. Can you explain one good thing about each of the healthy foods
you listed?

3. ABSTRACTION

NUTRITALK
The teacher will lead a brief discussion about adolescence and the
appropriate foods to consume during this stage.
After that, the students will be grouped again into four groups.
Each group will be given handouts containing information about
different nutrients essential for adolescents.
The groups will have 5 minutes to discuss the provided handouts with
their groupmates.
Afterward, the teacher will choose one representative from each group
to share their information in front of the class.
After the presentation of each group, the teacher will ask the following
guide questions:

Essential Nutrients:
Group 1: Calcium & Iron
Group 2: Protein and Zinc
Micronutrients:
Group 3: Vitamin D & Vitamin E.
Group 4: Potassium and Fiber.

Guide questions:

1. What are the important nutrients for your health during


adolescence, and where can you find them in your diet?
2. Can you give examples of foods that provide calcium, protein,
vitamin D, and fiber?
3. What are some easy ways for teenagers to make sure they get
these nutrients in their diet?

4. APPLICATION
NUTRITION SORTING CHALLENGE
Using the same four groups, each group will receive a different set of
pictures depicting healthy and unhealthy foods.
The teacher will write two labels on the blackboard: 'Healthy' and
'Unhealthy.'
Students will have 2 minutes to discuss and arrange the pictures into
their assigned category.
Afterward, they will be given 1 minute to place the pictures on the
blackboard under the appropriate label, either 'Healthy' or 'Unhealthy.
Following this, each group representative will generalize their
explanation why they placed each picture under its respective label,
providing reasons for their categorization.
