IBCP FAQ SHEET

Q1. What is the Career-related Programme?


The Career-related Programme (CP), designed by the International Baccalaureate (IB), is an
innovative education programme tailored to students who want to focus on career-related
learning in the last two years of high school. It allows students to create an individualized path
that leads to either further study or employment after graduation. What is IBCP ?
IBCP is a course option that students can choose for their Grade 11 and 12. It provides the
opportunity for students to choose from selected vocational streams. These career-related
courses provide a platform for future undergraduate courses.

Q2. What subjects will a student learn in IBCP?


As part of the IBCP structure, students will pursue a career-related course accompanied by
atleast 2 I.B. Diploma programme subjects. In addition, the completion of the 4 elements of
the CP Core is mandatory for all CP students.

Q3. What is CP core?


It comprises of 4 elements, namely:

• Personal and professional skills


Personal and professional skills is designed for students to develop attitudes, skills
and strategies to be applied to personal and professional situations and contexts now
and in the future.
In this course the emphasis is on skills development for the workplace, as these are
transferable and can be applied in a range of situations.

• Service learning
Service learning is the development and application of knowledge and skills towards
meeting an identified and authentic community need.
In this research-based approach, students often undertake service initiatives related
to topics studied previously in their academic disciplines, utilizing skills,
understandings and values developed in these studies.

• Reflective Project
The reflective project is an in-depth body of work produced over an extended period
of time and submitted towards the end of the CP. Through a reflective project
students identify, analyse, critically discuss and evaluate an ethical issue arising from
their career-related studies.
The reflective project is intended to promote high-level research, writing and
extended communication skills, intellectual discovery and creativity.

• Language Development
Language development ensures that all students have access to a language
programme that will assist and further their understanding of the wider world. The
ability to communicate in more than one language is essential to the IB’s concept of
an international education.
Language development encourages students to improve their proficiency in a
language other than their best language.

Q4. What career-related courses are available to my child at KRMG School?


• Business Administration
• Artificial intelligence

Q5. Are the CRS modules provided by the IB?


No, CRS modules are designed and implemented by a third party, WACP
(World Academy of Career Programme) in collaboration with IB.

Q6. What is WACP?


World Academy of Career Programmes (WACP) is an educational research organization. They
offer K12 based career related courses in multiple academic streams designed for the 21st
century learners.

Q7. What are the benefits of WACP certifications?


The WACP - CRS Certifications are coveted qualifications which recognize outstanding
students by substantiating their conduct and professionalism to prospective employers.
Academic excellence, dedication, project work, ingenuity and originality of ideas,
communication skills coupled with a certain degree of confidence and flair are a few of the
requisite attributes necessary to be awarded the WACP-CRS Certifications. It boosts one’s
academic and resume credentials and gives an added advantage over other candidates in
the world. WACP offers higher education career counselling to IBCP students so that they
can make informed career choices.

Q8. How does CP facilitates learners to be ready for learning demands for 21st century?
The CP is an excellent choice for students who seek academic rigour, have already
determined their area of career specialization, and want hands-on learning and experience
in their chosen field. The programme provides students with an impressive portfolio of
accomplishments for university study and employment.

Q9. How will assessment be conducted?

Assessment of each element of CP is assessed based on the guidelines of IB.

• DP subjects: As per IBDP examination requirements – Internal Assessments and


External Assessment.
• CP Core:
o Reflective Project: Internally assessed, externally moderated by IB.
o Personal and professional skills, Service learning and Language development:
Assessed by school as per guidelines given by IB. School has to confirm
completion of the same to IB.
• Career-related courses: Assessed by the CRS provider. Necessary certification will be
issued by them on completion of the course requirements.

Q 10. Does implementing an IB programme mean my child’s school will not teach local or
national standards such as the Common Core?
The IB is committed to making sure that students in IB programmes meet and exceed local
or national standards. With the implementation of any IB programme, schools are required
to examine their curriculum carefully to ensure that there is alignment with local, state or
national standards.

Q11. Is CP accepted all over the world?

IBCP has global recognition and is highly valued by universities and employers around the
world. Universities recognize that students that participate in an IB program are among the
most prepared to be successful in college. IBCP students accepted to top universities of the
world including MIT, UC Berkeley, UCLA, etc. The acceptance can be seen with the PDF
attached which lists the destinations where transcripts of CP students have been sent.

Q11. Is CP accepted in India?

Since 1983, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP) has been recognized
by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as an entry qualification to all universities in
India. In September 2021, the IB received notification that the Career-related Programme
(CP) has also been approved for equivalency by the Association of Indian Universities. Indian
Universities will now accept CP students' qualifications as equivalent to Indian School
Boards, such as CISCE or CBSE.
