Chapter 2
COMBINATIONS OF LOADS
24 GENERAL
Buildings and other structures shall be designed using the provi-
sions of either Section 2.3 of 2-4. Either Section 2.3 or 2.4 shall
he used exclusively for proportioning elements of a particular
‘constrction material throughout the siuctre

2.3. COMBINING FACTORED LOADS.
USING STRENGTH DESIGN
2.3.1 Applicability. The toad combinations and load factors
given in Section 2.3.2 shall be used only in those eases in hich |
they are specifically authorized by the applicable material design
standard
2.3.2 Basie Combinations. Stnictures, components ad fon-
‘ations shall be designed so that their design strength equals
‘or exceeds the effects of the factored Toads in the ollowing
‘combinations:

fof one or more loads not acting shall be investigated. The most
‘unfavorable eects rom both wind and earthquake loads shall be
investigated, where appropiate, but they need not be considered

233 Load Combinations Including Flood Load. When 2
siructure is located in a lood zone (Section 5.3.1) the follow
ing load combinations shall be considered
1. In Zones or Coastal A-Zones, 1.6W in combinations (4)
and (6) shall be replaced by 1.6W + 20F,.
2. Innoncoastal A-Zones, L6W in combinations (4) and (6)
shall be eplaced by O.8W + LOF,
234 Load Combinations Including Atmospheric le Loads.
‘When stricture is subjected wo atmospheric io and wind-on-ice
Jods the following loa combinations shall be considered
1. OS(Ly o€ 8 0° R) in combination (2) shall be replaced by
