Commissioning Instructions
1. Introduction
The rim mounted on the vehicle is subject to different stresses, and is very important for road safety.
Fatigue testing of disc wheels is therefore necessary to ensure their long-term serviceability. These
tests are carried out on special testing machines in accordance with defined legal guidelines.
Rotating bending tests are of critical importance in this context. They can be carried out reliably on the
rotating bending test machines of inmess GmbH.
Our machines incorporate state-of-the-art technology for testing disc wheels and feature safe and
user-friendly operation. We operate a policy of continuous improvement in cooperation with our
customers in order to provide the best possible machine for the described testing requirements.
2. Installation
Before mounting the wheel attachment flange, the transport protection of the exciter rod has to be
removed by undoing the two screws connecting the exciter rod with the retaining sleeve.

2.4 Electrical Work
The electrical connection of the machine to the power supply provided by the customer must be
carried out by authorized and qualified personnel in line with the applicable guidelines and regulations.
The cables should be connected according to the circuit diagram by qualified personnel only.
All connections to protective earth (PE) between the switching cabinet and machine must be made
and the connections checked for correctness. The cables must be laid in a floor duct and protected
against damage.
3. Commissioning
When the machine is commissioned the following checks should be carried out by the service
technician, partly together with the responsible technical staff of the operator:
• rotating field of the power supplied by the customer (clockwise rotating field)
• correct connection and installation of the cables
• consistent connection of the PE system
• serviceability of the safety elements.
It must be ensured that no person is endangered when the machine is switched on.
The forked head into which the force transducer is attached has to be screwed onto the unbalance
exciter head. By pressing the button on the left-hand side panel, the unbalance exciter head can be
set to the required position. The calibration device is then fitted and connected with the force
transducer.
The measuring amplifier has to be connected and adjusted as described in the separate instructions.
By means of the calibration device an initial load of approx. 5% of the nominal bending moment of the
machine should be set and the measuring amplifier set to zero.
On the computer, the calibration dialog is launched from the pulldown Calibration menu. The
measured values for Mb-X , Mb-Y and Mb- total are displayed in the window.
Commissioning Instructions
The values for Mb-X and Mb-Y are set to zero by left clicking on Calibrate zero position and Accept.
A test series with suitable increments of increasing and decreasing load can now be measured.
As the lever arm for the bending moment is 760 mm, the required force for the bending moment has to
be multiplied by 1 / 0.76 = 1.316.
1 KNm 1.316 Nm
2 KNm 2.632 Nm
etc.
If differences are found between the total displayed on the screen and the reading of the measuring
amplifier, the scale factor can be adapted via the software. For this purpose, the correct value should
be entered in the Total field and accepted by pressing the Enter key. This adjustment is best done with
an average bending moment. Afterwards, at least one test series should be measured to ensure the
measurement results.
The calibration dialog is terminated by left clicking on Save. The calibration device can then be
removed and the machine prepared for the next test.
Note:
The calibration device with force transducer and measuring unit are not part of the standard
equipment but can be ordered from inmess GmbH as optional accessories.
