make a bow towards the altar
table.
2. Go to the ambo and fix the
microphone.
3. Greet the assembly, looking at
them as you say the greeting.
4. Read the rest of the text.
5. When you are finished, step
back from the ambo, make a
bow towards the altar table,
go down, and go back to your
class.

MEMORIAL OF SAINT ROSE OF LIMA, VIRGIN
SECONDARY PATRONESS OF THE PHILIPPINES
Good morning!
Today we remember Saint Rose of Lima.
Her real name is Isabela de Oliva but she was known for her
beauty and so people called her Rosa.
She was a lay Dominican and was known for her holiness
and for her concern for the poor.
She offered her whole life to Christ
and at the age of thirty-one she went to heaven.
Pope Pius the twelfth made her secondary patroness of the
Philippines and her image can be seen with Saint James
beside the main window of the Manila Cathedral.
Like the saints, we are also called to live holy lives
and to love God and neighbor.
Let us all stand.

on the book and read from the

reading so that others may
hear the message of God and
understand what God says.
So, read at a pace that can be
understood--not too slow, not
too fast. What you are reading
to them is very important -
that’s what God wants to say
to them and you are helping
God in delivering the message.
4. Remember to pause and
breathe.
5. DO NOT say “First Reading”.
DO NOT say the book,
chapter, and verse. Begin with
“A reading from …”
6. Pause after the first line (the
one with “A reading from …”)
and pause again before saying
“The word of the Lord.”
7. After you hear “Thanks be

Reading I RU 1:1, 3-6, 14B-16, 22
A reading from the book of Ruth
Once in the time of the judges there was a famine in the land;
so a man from Bethlehem of Judah
departed with his wife and two sons
to reside on the plateau of Moab.
Elimelech, the husband of Naomi, died,
and she was left with her two sons, who married Moabite
women,
one named Orpah, the other Ruth.
When they had lived there about ten years,
both Mahlon and Chilion died also,
and the woman was left with neither her two sons nor her
husband.
She then made ready to go back from the plateau of Moab
because word reached her there
that the LORD had visited his people and given them food.
Orpah kissed her mother-in-law good-bye, but Ruth stayed with
her.
Naomi said, “See now!
Your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and her god.
Go back after your sister-in-law!”
But Ruth said, “Do not ask me to abandon or forsake you!
For wherever you go, I will go, wherever you lodge I will lodge,
your people shall be my people, and your God my God.”
Thus it was that Naomi returned
with the Moabite daughter-in-law, Ruth,
who accompanied her back from the plateau of Moab.
They arrived in Bethlehem at the beginning of the barley
harvest.
