Punctuation – Activity 1 Questions


Full stops, Exclamation Marks and Question Marks

Read this information about punctuation.

At Entry Level 3 you are expected to:


 Write in complete sentences
 Use end of sentence punctuation with accuracy
 Always use capitals for the personal pronoun I and proper nouns.

Do not:
 Write answers just in capital letters
 Use random capital letters mid-sentence
 Use commas to end sentences.

When do you use a capital letter?


 A sentence always begins with a capital letter and ends with a full stop, question mark or
exclamation mark
 Proper nouns – names of people, places, months of the year, days of the week, book and
film titles
 For the personal pronoun I.

Question marks and exclamation marks


Question marks are used at the end of a sentence to show that a question is being asked.
Exclamation marks should only be used to:
 Add strength to a word or give a command
 Make something seem urgent
 Show that someone is shouting.
