LEARNING TASK #2- PUMP

General Directions:
1.) Answer the following problems on a clean paper with your COMPLETE NAME written above.
2.) Show your DETAILED and CLEAR solution and HIGHLIGHT your final answer.
3.) Filename Format: SURNAME_COURSE&SECTION_LT NUMBER example:NADAL_BSME1A_LT1
4.) Submitted output should be in ONE PDF file format ONLY.
5.) Failure to follow the directions will correspond to deduction/s to your total points. Goodluck!

PROBLEMS:
1.) Water in the rural areas is often extracted from underground water source
whose free surface is 60 m below ground level. The water is to be raised 5m
above the ground by a pump. The diameter of the pipe is 10 cm at the inlet
and 15 cm at the exit. Neglecting any heat interaction with the surroundings
and frictional heating effect, what is the necessary power input for the steady
flow of water at the rate of 15 litres/sec in kW? (10 points)
2.) A pump adds 167.6 m of pressure head to 45.43 kg/s of water. What is
the hydraulic power in kW and hp? (10 points)
3.) A pump delivers 500 gpm of water against a total head of 200 ft and
operating at 1770 rpm. Changes have increased the total head to 375 ft. At
what rp, should the pump be operated to achieve the new head at the same
efficiency? (10 points)
4.) A boiler feed pump receives 130 cfm of water with specific volume of
0.0025 m3/kg at a head of 800 m. If the pump efficiency is 64%, what is the
output of the driving motor in kW? (10 points)
5.) What is the expected head loss per mile of a closed circular pipe with 17
inches diameter, darcy friction factor of 0.03 when 3300 gpm of water flow
under pressure? (10 points)
