LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 7

Quarter: Second Week: 2 Time Frame: 1hr and 30mns

Content: Measurement Date:

Specific topic: Types of measurement, Teacher: Mr. Federick Rey S. Hospita

units of measurements and measuring
tools.

Content Standard

- Demonstrates understanding of the key concepts of measurement.

Performance Standard

- Is able to formulate real-life problems involving measurements and solve these

using a variety of strategies.
Learning Competencies

- Describes the development of measurement from the primitive to the present

international system of units

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:

1. Identify the different types of measurement.

2. Understood the fundamental units of measurements for mass, volume, length,
and time.
3. Solve problems from measurement to address real-world issues.

II. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Prayer

Say: May I request everyone to please stand Students stand and pray.
up and let us pray, In the name… Amen.

B. Greetings

Say: Good morning class!! Say: Good morning, Teacher!!

C. Checking of Attendance

Say: You may now take your sit… (Checking of attendance)

Say: Very good class!! No one is absent.

D. Review of the past lesson

Say; Could you name one of the topics we Say: Sir, our last topic is all about the history
covered in the first quarter of our of measurements and its evolution and where
discussion? Yes, _______. ancient system of measurement makes use of
body parts.
Say: That’s right! We focus on the ancient
system of measurements. How it changes
through time and their instrument of
measurement.

E. Motivation

Say: Now class, to start our new lesson, we

are going to play a game. Do you want to
play the game? If yes, then let’s start. First, (After dividing the class, the students will go
let’s divide the class into four groups. to their respective groups.)

Say: The game we’re going to play is called

“Who am I”. The mechanics of the game are
simple. First, name the pictures presented. (Within 10 minutes the students will answer

real life. Then write your answer in ¼ sheet
of paper.

Say: What a job well done class! You can (The students will go back to their proper
now go back to your proper seat. seats)

F. Lesson Proper

Say: Based on your activity, what do you Say: Ma’am our lesson for today is…
think of our lesson for today?

Say: Correct! Our lesson for today is all

about the types of measurement and what
units we’re going to use for each type. (The Teacher will present his prepared
materials for the lesson.)
Say: To properly start our lesson, let me
explain first what measurement is.

Measurement is a technique in which

the properties of an object are
determined by comparing them to a
standard quantity. Also,
measurement is the essential metric
to express any quantity of objects,
things and events.

Say: Understood Class?

Say: Yes Sir!
Say: Class did you bring a calculator that I
have instructed you last meeting?
Say: Very good! class, there are 4 basic
types of measurement. Say: Yes, we did Sir.

 Time
 Length
 Weight
 Volume

Say: For every type there are corresponding

units, or we can call it units of measurement.
Time: Units for expressing time
include seconds, minutes, hours,
days, weeks, months, years, etc.

Length: Units for measuring length

include millimetres, centimetres,
meters, kilometres, etc.

Weight: Units for expressing the

weight of certain objects include
grams, kilograms, tons, etc.

Volume: Units for expressing volume

include cm3, m3, litres, etc.

Say: To measure time we use clocks, watch

and calendars (measures days). Here is the
units of time. For every 1 second there are (The teacher will
1000 milliseconds. For every 1 minute there show a chart of
are 60 seconds. For 1 hour there are 60 units of time)
minutes. For 1 day there are 24 hours. For 1
week there are 7 days. For 1 month there
are 28-31 days. For 1 year there are 12
months or 365 (leap year)/ 366 days. For 1
decade there are 10 years. For 1 century
there are 100 years. For 1 millennium there
are 1000 years.

For example, I traveled for 1 hour.

The question is, how many minutes Say: Sir, there are 3,600 seconds in 1 hour.
in 1 hour?

Say: Correct! There are exactly 3,600

seconds in 1 hour. How did he get it? Class
there are 60 minutes in 1 hour, but the
question is how many seconds. Also, there
are 60 seconds in 1 minute. To solve it we’re
going to multiply 60 minutes to 60 seconds
to get the answer. Then the final answer is Say: Yes Sir!
3,600 seconds. Did you get it class?

Another example, Jaybee is 12 years Say: Sir, Jaybee is 144 months old because in
old. How old Jaybee in months? 1 year there 12 months then I multiply 12
years to 12 months and the answer is 144.
Say: Excellent! Your answer is correct. Therefore, Jaybee is 144 months old.

Say: Let’s proceed to the next type and its

length. To measure length we use rulers, (The teacher will show a chart of units of
meter sticks, measuring tape and many length)
more. The basic unit of length is meter and
here is the basic units of length.

Say: In 1 kilometer there are 1000 meters. In

1 hectometer there are 100 meters. In 1
decameter there are 10 meters. 1 decimeter
is equal to 1/10 meter. 1 centimeter is equal
to 1/100 meter. 1 millimeter is equal to
1/1000 meter.
