INTRODUCTION

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines mathematics as "the science of numbers and

their operations, interrelations, combinations, generalizations, and abstractions and of space
configurations and their structure, measurement, transformations, and generalizations." To us,
mathematics is a discipline that seeks understanding of the patterns and structures of constructs
of the human mind. Understanding has no end to its depth, and mathematics seeks the highest
standards of understanding by demanding rigor in its foundations and in its development.

Grades are very essential. It is the measurement of a student’s understanding on the

material. Educators use grades primarily for administrative purposes, to give students feedback
about their progress and achievement, to provide guidance to students about future course work,
to provide guidance to the teachers for instructional planning and to motivate students. We
conduct a survey of 60 students from Arcelo Memorial National High School about their third
grading grades in mathematics.

All of us are intelligent. God created us equally. Sometimes, when we failed in a one
thing, mathematics for instance, we quickly think that we are weak. Remember that nobody is
idiot in this world. We should not be ashamed of letting anyone know our performances
particularly in grades. Thus, we must face and accept it. We should always remember that grades
don’t define a person’s intelligence. You may not be good at academics, but if your heart is as
beautiful as flower, shine like a diamond and colorful like rainbows, then you are a prodigious
person deserve to be loved.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

The purpose of our research is for us to know the grades and also to know what other
students can say about mathematics – if they like it or not.

FREQUENCY DISTRIBUTION TABLE

Third Grading Grades of Grade 10 students in Mathematics

Class Interval Frequency <cf LB
95-99 7 60 94.5
90-94 16 53 89.5
85-89 17 37 84.5
80-84 16 20 79.5
75-79 4 74.5 74.5

The average grade in Math of 60 students is 87.5 %. Most of them said that they are not
good in Math that’s why their grades are not higher. Some students do not want to be interviewed
because they are ashamed of their grades. However, we respect their decisions. 33.33% said that
they don’t like Math because it’s quite difficult. On the other hand, 66.67% said that they love
Math because it is fun and most of all challenging. They faced arduous topics in their journeys in
Mathematics. 20% said that topics they find difficult in Math is permutation, 8.33% said it’s
combination, 1.67% said it’s Independent and Dependent Events, 18.33% said it’s Geometry,
6.67% it’s Trigonometry, 18.33% said it’s Grouped and Ungrouped Data, 50% said all topics in
Mathematics 10 are difficult and lastly, 13.37% said that all topics in Math was a piece of cake.

SUMMARY

Based on the results computed, it is shown that Grade 10 students just have satisfying
grades in Math. The students being surveyed answered that Math is quite difficult. So, 25% of
them review their notes so that they can answer during the test.

CONCLUSION

Therefore, the researchers conclude that most of the students in Arcelo MNHS find Math
10 quite difficult. We cannot blame them because Math is naturally difficult. 66.67% said that the
way how the teacher teaches the lesson in Math affects their learnings. We also found out that
48.33% of the students like Math.
