Lesson Plans: Do you like...?

LESSON INTRODUCTION LESSON PLAN


MAIN AIM WARMER (5 MINUTES)
Students will be able to ask and answer questions about the food they like. Welcome children into class and ask them to stand in a circle.
For example: Play a hello song on a projector/TV or through the speakers – children sing and act out the
• Do you like pizza? routine.
• Yes, I do.
As you register the children, ask them one or two basic questions individually. When they
answer, they can sit down.
SECONDARY AIM Example questions include:
• Review different types of food
• How are you?
• What’s your name?
LEVEL
• How old are you?
Low-level very young learners
• Where do you live?
• What’s your favourite food?
LESSON LENGTH
60 minutes
LEAD IN (10 MINUTES)
TARGET LANGUAGE Hold up a flashcard for a typically delicious food such as pizza or cake. Model the question Do
you like pizza? and answer Yes, I do! Exaggerate your facial features and rub your tummy to
• Do you like…? show the food is delicious.
• Yes, I do. Hold up another card and repeat the question. For example, Do you like broccoli? Exaggerate
• No, I don’t. your disgust and say No, I don’t!

Model and drill the question and answers – encourage your learner to exaggerate the
MATERIALS answers, include nodding or shaking their heads too.

CONTROLLED PRACTICE (10 MINUTES)
• Super Simple Song – Hello Song
• Super Simple Song – Do you like Broccoli Ice Cream? Drill the question using a TPR (total physical response). Alternate clapping your hands and
clapping on your knees to the beat of the syllables: Do-you-like-piz-za? Yes-I-do!
• Super Simple Song – Goodbye song
Choose students to ask food questions to – using flashcards to help – and using clap drilling.
Students should answer using the clap drilling too.
EQUIPMENT Play the Do you like broccoli icecream song? Students can sing and dance along. Play the
song twice if it’s necessary.
• Whiteboard
• Projector or TV screen. (If not, laptop and speakers.)
PRODUCTION (15 MINUTES)
Demonstrate asking and answering "Do you like…?" questions with a young learner.
Get the students into pairs. They should ask and answer questions with their partner. They
can use flashcards from the board or other types of food that they know.
Change the groupings when necessary. Monitor the class and address any errors.

COOLER (5 MIN)

Ask students to line up neatly in front of you.


Demonstrate that if their answer is "Yes, I do", students jump to the right.
If their answer is "No, I don’t", they jump to the left. Ask questions to the learners. The
last person to jump is out of the game. Continue until there is one person left.

GOODBYE ROUTINE (5 MIN)

With students standing in a circle, play any goodbye sond that you usually use.
Ask them to line up at the door.
Say goodbye to the students individually before letting them go.
