wire. [Ans: 1.74A, 1.68×10-6m]

Potentiometer
1) What is potentiometer? Write its principle.
2) Why do we prefer a potentiometer to measure emf of a
cell rather than a voltmeter?
3) If the length of the wire be doubled, what will be the
effect on the position of zero deflection in a
potentiometer?
4) A potentiometer wire AB is 100 cm long and has a total
resistance of 10 ohm. If the galvanometer shows zero

5) What is the principle of potentiometer? In the given
figure, a potentiometer wire AB is of 100 cm length and 5Ω resistance. The emf of
standard cell E1 is 6 V and variable resistor R is of 6Ω.

6) Figure shows a 2.0 V potentiometer used for the
determination of internal resistance of a 1.5 V cell. The
balance point of the cell in open circuit is 76.3 cm. When a
resistor of 9.5 Ω is used in the external circuit of the cell,
the balance point shifts to 64.8 cm length of the
potentiometer wire.
