Why I Want To Be A Teacher

8/22/23

Teaching In My Perspective

Since I was a little girl the most important question was “What do you want to be when

you grow up” and honestly, it was always a teacher. Teaching was always on my mind, but as I

got older many people took that dream away by telling me “Teacher don’t get paid enough" and

for a girl trying to decide what she wanted to do for a living that was not helpful at all. My

mindset was not around how much I would get paid, but how I would help kids develop and help

when they struggled. My junior year of high school I got into my TAP class, from which I

received the experience to work with kids. Going forward I knew it was something I would enjoy

for the rest of my life.

As I got older, I have had many teachers over the past 12 years, and I will say some were

amazing and others not so much. I know every teacher has their own way of teaching, and I

would want to be the teacher I never had growing up. One that would care about why their

students are not doing so well some days, but also one that is there to be able to teach them

everything they need to succeed. As a teacher I would love to be able to show them lessons they

could use for the rest of their life, something that will draw their attention to me. I want to be

able to have fun in my classroom somewhere, where my students are excited to come every day

and learn something new.

As a senior in high school, it comes with many responsibilities making sure I have

applied to college, but also making sure it is a good decision. Coming from an immigrant family

the decision to becoming a teacher was not first choice. Instead, it was being a doctor or a lawyer

something where I would get good income, but I know as of right now I see myself in a

classroom with kids looking up to me, while also impacting their future day by day. Many family

members wonder if I am making a desirable choice, but I know that becoming a teacher is

something I have always dreamed of.

Something that mostly influenced me to become a teacher were my TAP classes in my

junior year of high school. They showed me the love I had for being around kids, and how I

worked around the classroom. Especially with one of them, he had barley came from Mexico and

I being able to speak two languages is something I am incredibly grateful for it. It helped me

communicate with the student and know what he was struggling with and how I could help him.

My passion grew from there; I knew I could help these students when they were struggling.

ESLO is a class I would love to teach, because it gives me the opportunity to work with students

who do not speak, or primary language is English. It is something I went through from not

knowing the language to now being able to speak it fluently.

As a teacher my students will always come first, making sure they are okay every day

while also putting a smile on their faces. Knowing that teaching is my passion, and I would love

to do it for the rest of my life is something that will never change. Especially being able to teach

a class where I came from and learn everything I needed about the language. As a little girl,

knowing that I am going into the education field, she would be extremely proud of me.
