THE ROTATION SYSTEM

Our re-designed Rhino Spring Clip and Rhino Ring improve rotation, reduce cutter
bit wear and make installation easier – all resulting in more savings for you.
The Rhino Spring Clip has a rounder shape, bi-directional retaining tabs, reduced
gap size and is made from thicker material. The Rhino Ring has a larger outside
diameter, smaller inside diameter and larger cone size.

QUICK-CHANGE TOOLHOLDER SYSTEM
The original Wirtgen quick-change toolholder system —
the standard of quality and economy
Optimized systems for picks and toolholders
Toolholders are highly stressed components.
Almost the entire engine power is converted into
cutting performance via the toolholders. When
cutting through extremely hard materials, a
toolholder must withstand up to five million load
cycles during its service life and guarantee
optimum rotation of the picks. That is why Wirtgen
engineers attach particular importance to using
extremely wear-resistant materials and optimally
designed toolholder systems.
Wirtgen – setting standards in
toolholder systems
Instead of welding the toolholders onto
the drum as in older machines,
Wirtgen’s concept was to develop
holders which could be replaced
quickly and easily. The first generation
of Wirtgen quick-change toolholders
was ready for series production in
1992 and ensured that worn or
damaged toolholders could be
replaced in a matter of minutes: on site
and without requiring any cut-off or
welding machines. The cash value of
this advantage was immediately
appreciated by the contractors. In
addition to being easy to replace, the
Wirtgen quick-change toolholder
systems are characterized by a long
service life, thanks to the elimination of
welds and the use of high-quality
materials. The success of Wirtgen’s
unique quick-change toolholder
systems is due not only to the detailed
theoretical analysis and computer
simulations, but also to exhaustive

Strong Retaining Bolt:
The retaining bolt in the HT11 quick-
change system is significantly larger
than the one used in the HT3 quick-
change toolholder system. The
M30x2 thread is now combined with a
17 mm hexagonal socket drive which
reliably transfers the necessary
torque of 500 Nm. The conical stud
can transmit enormous clamping
forces and thus minimizes loosening
of the upper part.

Bottom Part Covered by Upper Part:

particles combine with water and enter
the gap between the upper and bottom
parts. Occasionally this can cause the
shank of the upper part to jam into the
bottom part making it more difficult to
replace the upper part. In the HT11
quick-change toolholder system, the
bore in the bottom part is protected
against contamination by a seal. This
seal optimizes the position of the upper
part in the bottom part and further
reduces the time required to change
parts.

RHINO CONVEYOR BELTS

Fabric
• 3 plies of a durable, synthetic fabric resulting in a 240 lb per inch of width working tension.
• Offers flexibility to operate on small pulleys at high speeds
• Provides increased resistance to gouging, puncturing, and impact at loading points
• Has excellent fastener holding ability
Covers
• Features a 3/16” thick top cover and a 1/16” thick bottom cover
• Made of a durable yet flexible rubber compound designed to withstand the harsh effects of
abrasion, gouging, and weathering
Cleats
• Fully molded into the belt cover: That is, the cleats and cover are one unit. This proven
production method prevents cleats from peeling away from the cover, which can take
place when uncured cleats are vulcanized to a cured belt cover.
• Aggressive 1” high cleats spaced at 10” apart increase production capacity, withstand
abrasion, enhance belt life, and protect the top cover of the belt.
• 1” high integrally molded rubber side curbs are available.
Splice
• Conventional styles of conveyor belting usually fail in the splice area, which is typically
the weakest part of the belt. Our special splicing techniques developed from years of
experience result in a virtually seamless joint that withstands even the toughest
applications.
• Tests show that the Rhino splice is up to 40% stronger than conventional splices in
standard rubber belting.
• Rhino’s one-piece construction, where cleats, cover, fabric, and splice are manufactured as a
single unit, provides the industry’s most durable and productive belt.
