Search an article about EDSA People Power 1, base in that article that you've searched
explain how it impacted our Philippine Government today both in positive and in negative
ways.

This very day, February 25th year 2022, marks the 36th anniversary of the historic EDSA People
Power Revolution. It is said that this event was a manifestation of discontent and furies that
began due to Marcos’ authoritarian ruling. Having this said, the EDSA PPR1 affected our
country, be it positively or negatively. Based on the article I’ve read, some of the positive effects
of this revolution is that first and foremost, the combined power of the civilians was able to
overthrow the totalitarian power that Ferdinand Marcos Sr. once possessed. Through this,
overcoming the absolutism of the said dictator was a success, and the Filipino people, as one,
were able to reclaim liberty and restore democracy. Additionally, as the article stated, the
historical EDSA PPR1 set an excellent example of a peaceful revolution. Although the majority
of the demonstrators were stationed in NCR, people desperately made their voices be heard even
those from across the nation. Demonstrators fearlessly faced the armored military and confronted
them with linked arms together with prayers, flowers, and hopeful songs. The article also says
that this revolution urged the Filipino to show the natural “bayanihan essence”. Civil union was
highly observed as nearby citizens provided food for the demonstrators, as well as damp cloths
when a teargas attack occurred during that time. However, despite the listed positive impacts, no
revolution can be as peaceful as that. One negative effect that can still be observed today is the
obvious toxic segregation of the Filipino citizens as either “dilawan” or “pro-Marcos". It’s sad
to grasp the truth that some people, if not many, revolve their world around opposing each other.
We should be the proud people of our country, not just for a single party.

Where can you find reliable sources for the historical event above, and how you make sure
that the article you've searched is reliable or not.

Choosing reliable sources is a must in order to refrain from sharing information that can mislead
others. Especially for historical events such as the EDSA PPR1, historical books are the best and
safest option to choose. These books are guaranteed of being peer-reviewed and won’t make it to
the mass media without prior study of experts. As for the article I’ve read, it came from the
official gazette, the public journal, and the main publication of the Philippine government.
However, in this case, an online gazette which has no power to publish but to only upload what
has been officially published.
