Test step list, ZBR2

Important! The tests must only be performed with the vehicle at a standstill, the parking brake applied
and the vehicle engine switched off.

Test description
The test step list enables you to check the central on-board computer components or functions using a
multimeter (e.g. FLUKE 87).

Rectangular signals or clocked signals can also be checked using an oscilloscope or multimeter
(Skopemeter) 123 (FLUKE).

In the test step list in this section (example: test step 1), the first test contact is designated "Pin F1/12" and
the second test contact is designated "Pin M/16". Use a multimeter to measure the resistance between these
pins. Measurements are taken directly on the central on-board computer. The measuring mode to be set on
the measuring instrument (multimeter) is shown between test contacts (pins) listed in column 2.

Example: Setting “V” = Voltage measurement

Example: Setting “Ω” = Resistance measurement
Once the test requirements have been fulfilled, the value indicated on the measuring device (actual
characteristic) can be compared with the desired value (desired characteristic).

Two sample measurements are described below:

If voltages are being measured, switch on the ignition and leave the central on-board computer connectors
connected.

The figure above is a measurement example based on the TGA.

In this example, the voltage supply for headlight low beam, right is measured between pin BR/2 - positive line
and pin M/16 - ground line.

The measured value obtained using the FLUKE 87 multimeter is 22.89V (battery voltage).

If resistances are being measured, switch off the ignition and leave the central on-board computer connectors
disconnected.

The figure above is a measurement example based on the TGA.

In this example with the T-CAN driveline databus, the resistance is measured between pin M/1 (T-CAN high
signal line) and pin M/7 (T-CAN low signal line).

The measured value obtained using the FLUKE 87 multimeter is 60.4Ω.

MAN-cats II must be used to produce a summary of the ZBR2 error memory to accompany the completed
test step list.

Use the overviews for troubleshooting.

When a voltage is being measured, the ignition is switched on.
When a resistance is being measured, the ignition is switched off and the central on-board computer is
disconnected.
Voltages and resistances between the pins are measured using a multimeter (e.g. FLUKE 87).
Never measure at the plug contacts themselves without using suitable test probes! Danger of
bending open the contacts!

Deleting the error memory

file://C:\MANWIS\XSLT\body.html?id=d0e54149 3/14/2013
Page 10 of 10

No more active errors are allowed to be stored in the error memory once all tests have been performed and
no errors are found!

Before deleting the error memory, download it using MAN-cats II and if it contains any non-diagnosed errors
then these must be archived. Then delete the error memory.

There must not be any errors in the memory when the ignition is switched back on. Otherwise, search for the
error and remedy the problem.
