Course Title: Architectural Design II Course code: ARC 221 Course Credit: 4 Unit

The general concept is to understand design of a residential building, to develop skill, practice

and knowledge involved in design.

Outcome: At the end of the course, students should be able to work within a given site to

produce complete design of one and two bedroom flat.

BRIEF

The Federal Government of Nigeria in a Public Private Partnership (PPA) has agreed to provide

one family residential building for Internally Displayed Persons (IDP) of Niger state. As a 200

level undergraduate student of Federal University of Technology Minna, you have been selected

to compete in the design of one family residential building (Semi-detached: one bedroom and

two bedroom flat), a prototype that will fit into a site measuring 3 hectares. The housing scheme

should comprise of:

 50 units of one bedroom Semi-detached

 100 units of two bedroom Semi-detached

A. Preliminaries

Conceptual design based on the context of socio-cultural problems as they affect

single family residential building i.e. the design should consider the culture of the

people and other cultures neighbouring Niger state.

B. Design Requirements:

1. Site analysis not to scale

2. Conceptual drawing not to scale

3. Site layout scale 1:500

 4. A typical site plan scale 1:200

5. Floor plans scale 1:100

6. Sections (at least two) scale 1:100

7. Roof plans scale 1:100

8. Elevations scale 1:100

9. 3-Dimensional Drawings (3D) Perspective or Model

Drawings should be produced with pencil

Paper size A3, Site layout could be drawn on A2
