Purpose of position The Team Leader plays a pivotal role in managing the day-to-day operations
Brief Summary: within the Warehouse and Distribution centre. Reporting to the Logistics
 Objective Manager, the TL has overall accountability for their department’s:
 Key areas of focus Safety: Ensuring our people keep both themselves and others
safe at work
Quality and
Food Safety: Making sure the food we produce meets or exceeds
both our internal and external customers’
expectations.
Delivery: Implementing and delivering upon our daily
Warehouse and Distribution operation plan.
Productivity/Cost: Leading and coordinating daily operations activities to
ensure the Team meets/exceeds requirements at
lowest cost.
People: Ensuring team members are complying with company
rules, policies and standard work and are trained to
required standards.
SIMPLIFY! Identifying opportunities for improvement using
proper tools and processes

Position Dimensions: The TL is directly accountable for supervising and managing the activities of
Direct Reports / Budget / Team Coordinators and warehouse employees assigned to them.

Qualifications e.g.  3-5 years industry experience within a Warehouse and distribution
competencies/ skills/ operation.

 Experience in building and leading teams including the ability to
influence others.
 Able to make decisions within authority limits and when necessary,

 Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
 Ability to work unsupervised.
 Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
 Strong computer skills, including MS Outlook.
 Able to interpret and use relevant reports and data.

Briefly describe the key actions, outcomes required, and accountabilities for the role
Department Measures
Safety  Drives a Health and Safety culture within the team and actively encourages
positive behaviours.
 Identifies risks and hazards and reports them promptly using proper tools and
processes.
 Encourages early reporting of any sprains or strains.
 Responsible to ensure full Health and Safety inductions for all new and
transferred employees are completed.
 Responsible for all training for the department and all records being kept up to
date and filed appropriately.
 Investigates all accidents and incidents in the department complete with
appropriate root cause analysis and recommendations.
 Escalates significant Health and Safety issues within required time parameters.
 Ensures risks and hazards are identified and reported together with appropriate
corrective actions.
 Responsible for completion of departmental EHS activities.
 Drives participation and contribution of the team in EHS meetings.
 Responsible to ensure all equipment is safe and fit for purpose.

Quality and Food  Responsible for ensuring a high standard of Quality and Food Safety throughout

 Proactively leads the team in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), identifies
issues and works to promptly resolve.
 Encourages employees to identify Quality and Food Safety issues and proactively
works with production management and the technical team to resolve.
 Escalates appropriate Quality and Food Safety issues within required time
parameters.
 Responsible to ensure all Quality and Food Safety standards are maintained and
systems/controls are in place.
 Is responsible to resolve corrective actions within required time parameters.
 Responsible for all Quality and Food Safety training for the department and that
records are kept up to date.
 Responsible for ensuring regular process verification checks are completed
accurately and in a timely manner with all records being kept up to date and
filed appropriately.

Productivity/Cost  Identifies training needs and ensures training is provided in a timely manner.
 Ensures cross-training and job rotation needs are met for department.
 Accountable for the completion of the daily operations activity plan in full and on
time.
 Escalates issues where plan cannot be met promptly to determine correct course
of action.
 Utilizes the departments resources in the most efficient and cost-effective way.
 Meets departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
 Proactively manages employee leave requirements to ensure all operational
requirements can be met within budget.
 Proactively uses team input and seeks ideas to improve current processes

 Proactively and regularly “thanks” individual team members on their
performance
 Responsible for all employees receiving a full induction on commencing their
employment, receiving supervision and training until competence is assessed.
 Able to conduct and document employee counselling sessions.
 Understands the disciplinary and performance review process, engages People
and Culture team immediately as issues arise and actively participates in the
process.
 Plans and allocates labour to the department tasks as per the production
requirements and as per the trained level of individuals.
 Takes ownership of departmental SOPs to ensure they meet training
requirements.
 Accurately records, maintains, and authorizes departmental time and
attendance records.
 Supports the growth and development of key roles within the team

SIMPLIFY! 
Proactively provides informed and researched information at meetings.

Responsible for keeping departmental information up to date.

Holds daily team meetings.

Uses SIMPLIFY! techniques to ensure that issues are resolved or escalated in a
timely manner.
 Manages feedback cards to ensure prompt close outs and database is up to date.
 Feeds back to employees as issues or improvement ideas are raised and
assessed.
