Primary Sports Day

Opens: Tuesday 4th May 2021


Closes: 5pm, Friday 2nd July 2021

Overview

Welcome to the Devon Virtual Games Events hosted by Active Devon and the Devon School Games
Organisers. This series of events throughout the Summer term will offer young people the opportunity to
compete against themselves and others whilst maintaining social distancing.

All competitions are virtual, and you can enter as many of them as you like. They give you the chance to
team up with your classmates, represent your school and compete against other children from across
Devon!

The Virtual Primary Sports Day will run from Tuesday 4th May 2021 – 5pm Friday 2nd July 2021. Schools will be
able to submit their entries via an online link below.

You must ensure you are following the latest government guidance and the guidance for teachers, school
leaders, carers, parents and students.

Brief Description of the Event:

All schools love a sports day and here are some activities that could do in school. There is a mixture of track
and field activities that have been created to test everyone skills and abilities. It is important that schools
and children follow the latest precautions with regards to COVID-19. These activities can be done in bubble
as year groups rotate between activities.

The challenges are perfect for whole class participation and should be delivered outside in a large space.

Before You Start:

Read all of the activities and follow the below equipment list.

- Pencils - Speed bounce mats


- Stop Watches - Parachutes
- Results Sheets - Beanbags
- Skipping ropes - Hurdles
- Tennis balls - Tennis Rackets
- Hoops - Footballs
- Cones/Spot mats - Tape Measures
- Gym mats - Vortex Throws

Familiarise yourself with the activities and make sure that all the equipment is cleaned after use by each
bubble.

Track Events:

All running events should be done in heats with someone from a different house of colour in each race. If
there are 4 houses, then 4 children can run at once.

Points:

Winner position - 4 points.


Second position - 3 points.
Third position - 2 points.
Fourth position - 1 point.

KS1 Running Events:

Year 1

50 Metre Dash. Children run 50 metres whilst being timed.

- Postman Race – In houses or classes children must sprint and post their letters (beanbags) into the
letter box (holes in the chairs) one at a time in 2 minutes. The start line should be 10 metres from the
post box. At the end, count all of the parcels posted.
- Obstacle Relay – In team’s, children must navigate through the obstacles. This can include going
under a parachute or a sheet, over a hurdle, jumping 10 times on a speed bounce mat, doing 10
skips and then collecting treasure (bean bags) and returning them to the team within 4 minutes.

Year 2

60 Metre Dash. Children run 60 metres whilst being timed.

- Postman Race – In houses or classes children must sprint and post their letters (beanbags) into the

post box. At the end, count up all of the parcels posted.

- Obstacle Relay – In team’s, children must navigate through the obstacles. This can include going

skips and then collecting treasure (bean bags) and returning them to the team within 4 minutes.

KS2 Running Events:

Year 3

- 200m Sprint – Children run 200 meters whilst being timed.

under a parachute or a sheet, over a hurdle, jumping 10 times on a speed bounce mat, doing 10
skips and then collecting treasure (bean bags) and returning them to the team within 4 minutes.

Year 6

100 Meter Sprint

- 200m Sprint – Children run 200 meters whilst being timed.


- Obstacle Relay – In team’s, children must navigate through the obstacles. This can include going
under a parachute or a sheet, over a hurdle, jumping 10 times on a speed bounce mat, doing 10
skips and then collecting treasure (bean bags) and returning them to the team within 4 minutes.
