Subject: Motivation Letter for Master of International Management and Information

Systems

Dear Sir/Madam,

With this letter, I am applying for a position in the Masters of International Management and
Information Systems programme, offered at Facchochshule Südwestfalen University of
Applied Sciences, Germany. With my current experience as a Cost Accounting Manager, I wish
to expand my technical knowledge of management and information systems in and turn my focus
towards their wide-scale applications in businesses and organizations as a Management
Consultant. By reading the course curriculum available online, I have found that the subject
material covered will best suit my career goals. Lastly, the prospect of participating in this
international program is an excellent opportunity to get a globalized view of management and
information systems, as well build upon my cultural cognisance.

By trade, I specialise in accounting and work in the financial services of my organization. As part
of my role, I maintain perpetual inventory system and reconcile inventory balances, plan and lead
monthly and quarterly inventory, prepare journal entries, post, balance and reconcile subsidiary
ledgers, actively participate in the preparation of annual budget and medium term expenditure
framework by providing updated cost information, produce monthly income and expenditure
reports, assist in producing annual administrative and management accounts, assist the Budget
Manager and Finance Director with day-to-day operations. Additionally, my role significantly

1
demand that I set up and maintain process cost information, reconcile standard costs to actual costs,
and actively participate in budgeting and forecasting, which entails reviewing historical costs
information and analysing current market trends to make accurate cost estimates for future
expenditure in line with established policies. My responsibility, diligence and management
aptitude were integral to the role; however, it was clear that my progress was decelerated by my
lack of technical, management and information system-related training.

The customised introduction to international management and information systems addresses the
next step in my professional development. The Cameroonian public sector accounting system has
changed from a paper-based recording system to a digital system, and with the revision of the
finance law on public accounting came the obligation to maintain cost management information
system by authorizing officers to easily ascertain the cost of elements of the actions undertaken as
part of programmes for the implementation of public policies. This amendment of the national
accounting system implies the need for large investments in hardware and software infrastructure
and ultimately in people with the right skillset to meet this demand. The combination of subjects
like ‘Management Accounting & Finance’, ‘Corporate Entrepreneurship & Innovation’ and
‘Product and Process Management’ in the Management stream and ‘Enterprise Resource
Planning’, ‘Business Intelligence’ and ‘Information Management’ in the Informatics path would
contribute to my professional ambitions. In addition, courses like ‘Journal Club’, ‘Intercultural
Communication’ and ‘Practical Experience’ would provide rich international experiences relevant
for my career.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from University of Buea, Cameroon.
During my studies, I was very active in many facets of university life. I completed a number of
internships around my university campus, working with small businesses. This gave me an outlet
to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting and also sparked my interest in business and
management consulting. I garnered motivation to provide accounting and reporting services to
small businesses in my university campus; which was hugely successful. Further to this I remained
engaged in university studies completing my Bachelor’s degree with a Second Class Honors –
Lower Division; Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.81/4 with European Credit Transfer
and Accumulation System (ECTS) credits of 188/188. My degree programme included courses in

2
economics, finance, marketing, management, business mathematics, statistics, taxation,
accounting, and auditing.

As part of the requirements of the program, I have obtained an English Language Proficiency
Certificate (IELTS) with an overall band score of 7.5/9, and coupled with my communication skills
and professional experiences, I believe I will be a great addition to the program.

Conclusively, bearing in mind what, on the one hand, my interests, prospects and qualifications
are, and what, on the other hand the Master in International Management and Information System
offers, I am enthusiastic and eager to undertake this challenge.

Thank you for considering my application. I appreciate your time and would love to speak with
you further about my goals, past academic performance and sincere interest in the program. I look
forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
NDANDO Freddie Robert NDANDO
