FORENSIC LINGUISTICS STUDY ON CASES OF HATE SPEECH AGAINST

PRESIDENT JOKO WIDODO IN SOCIAL MEDIA

INTRODUCTION

Social media plays a big role in presenting positive and negative news. The
means are quite effective in obtaining information and data. It can be said that social
media is included as a primary human need because over time social media has become
an inseparable part of people's daily lives in this digital era. Everyone will open their
cell phone in their daily life to see or find out anything on their social media. Anything
while the news is lively will immediately enter social media which can be found such as
on the internet, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, TikTok, Facebook and others. Thus, news
or information will spread easily and be known by many people in a fairly fast time.
Another positive thing that becomes an advantage of social media is that it makes it
easier for someone to interact with many people from outside and within the country. It
also makes it easy to express yourself in any way on social media that is accessible to
many people. In addition to the positive things of social media, but social media also
has negative things.

The negative impact caused by social media is no less than the positive impact
of social media. Social media is widely used as a place of fraud and dissemination of
news that is not true or not certain (Hoax). News or information that is spread with
negative content will harm someone who becomes the object (person who is harmed) in
the negative information content. In addition, social media is a world where users have
freedom of expression, such as commenting, insulting, uploading critical matters in
their status, which can lead to crimes. One example of the negative impact of social
media that is widely discussed and is no longer common is the case of hate speech. In
Indonesia cases of hate speech and hoaxes have become a big issue that can harm
democracy in the country so that it sticks from year to year and is difficult to overcome.
Cases like this can be processed through legal channels with Pasal 27 Ayat (3) UU ITE
if someone feels disadvantaged or does not accept what has been done on social media.
However, the existence of this report does not deter the perpetrators from committing
crimes, it will be even more arbitrary in terms of hating, insulting or giving hate speech
on social media which is often accessed by many people.
