Theoretical Framework

This research study, sustainable value chain analysis of anchovy (dilis) is

anchored on the Circular Economy Approach by Dr. Neil Andrew’s (2021) on the article
"Circular Economy Approaches to Sustainable Anchovy Fisheries and Value Chains". This
theory can reduce waste and pollution, circulate products and materials at their highest
value, and regenerate nature. This will benefit the environment, the economy, and
society.

Reducing waste and pollution, this could involve using bycatch and processing
waste to produce other products, such as fishmeal and fertilizer. It could also involve
developing new technologies to reduce waste and maximize resource use. Circulating
products and materials (at their highest value), this could involve designing anchovy
products that can be easily recycled or reused. It could also involve developing new
markets for anchovy byproducts and waste. Regenerating nature, this could involve
promoting sustainable fishing practices that protect anchovy stocks and the marine
ecosystem. It could also involve restoring anchovy habitats and supporting anchovy
research and development.

The use of this theory in understand the sustainability of the Anchovy (Dilis) it
can provides a clearer understanding to the researchers which can answer the
questions they have provided. And also, social responsibility of business is an important
consideration for the anchovy value chain. Businesses in the anchovy value chain
should ensure that their activities are fair and equitable for all stakeholders, including
fishers, processors, and consumers.
