Final Examination paper

Answer the following questions:

1. a. Find the electric field at the apex (A) of the triangle shown in the diagram if
q1=2.00C and q2= -- 3.00C.
b. Find the magnitude and direction of the force acting on a 6.00C charge placed
at the apex (A) of the triangle.

q1 0.5 m q2 [10 marks]

2. a. In the following R-C circuit [ = 25 V, C = 6 F and R = 1 M], find:

i. The maximum current in the circuit
ii. The maximum charge in the capacitor
iii. The current and the charge in the
capacitor, after closing the switch by 15
seconds.

b. In the following figure, use Kirchhoff rules to find the potential difference (p.d. or
voltage) across each resistor.

i. The equivalent capacitance of the
circuit,
ii. The charge in each capacitor,
iii. The energy stored in each capacitor.

4. a. A power line 16 m high carries a current of 250 A. What will be the magnetic field at
the ground level?

b. A current of 10 A flows through a wire of 50 cm length placed at an angle of 280 in a

uniform magnetic field of 20 mT. Calculate the force on the wire.

c. Find the magnetic field at the point A in the diagram if

(I1=15.0 A) is a current in a wire coming out of the page and
(I2=10.0 A) is a current in a wire going into the page. The
distances from each wire to point A are r1=5 cm and r2=10 cm.
