King Charles III is the King of all the countries in the UK and
Head of the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth includes
countries like Australia, Canada, Jamaica and India. This is why
people around the world will celebrate Charles’ Coronation on
Saturday May 6th. The Archbishop of Canterbury will crown
Charles and Camilla, the Queen Consort, during a ceremony at
Westminster Abbey in London. Charles automatically became
King when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died in September
2022 but the Coronation is a special occasion. It marks the
official transfer of Charles and Camilla’s royal titles and powers
and also confirms the monarch’s role as Head of the Church of
England. There will be a lot of events in the UK and abroad to
celebrate this historical moment. There will be a concert at
Windsor Castle on Sunday and many communities will organise
their own parties. Monday is a public holiday so the celebrations can continue for one extra day!
